So there is some priest who I served mass with today never was at this church before. So me and my sister kneel to receive communion the priest says get up. I do and he tells my sister to take it from the cibororum like its candy. Then he tells me to do it. I say I would like it in the tougnue the priest walks away from me and ignores me for the rest of the mass and puts everything back without purifying it with the water.

I was shocked never in my life have I met a priest that was that disrespectful. The ironic thing is that his homily was about bringing people into the church. Any thoughts

I have never seen nor have I have I ever heard of a priest doing such a thing ever.

I don’t get this. In what way would he pay attention to you during the rest of Mass, which is only about 5 - 10 minutes?

Perhaps you should talk to him about it.

True but he did the same thing to a crippled old lady during his homily she walked in late and he paused for 2 minutes (he is one of those priest who does his homilies in the have) and made her feel bad and then didn’t give her communion and went to the side of the church doing the same thing as he did before to me.

First thing to do would be to pray for that priest.

Then … prayerfully consider writing to your Bishop and just state the facts of what happened, as you’ve said that you were denied communion and you believe it was because you refused to take the Blessed Sacrament yourself from the ciborium.

Then pray some more.

His homily was about the growing number of atheists in this country. He wonders how we can solve the problem. Maybe he could consider being welcoming of people who are Catholics who love the faith and the Eucharist or who go to mass even though they can barely move there legs and get there a little late.

Yeah I told my parents they told one of the people who work in the rectory so the pastor will know about it. He will hopefully do something. If nothing happens I know a auxilarary bishop and I will tell him to bring it to the cardinal.

Then you’ve done all you are obligated to, except I hope you have prayed for that priest.

Ok the kneeling fine I get that I got up but he wouldn’t let me receive on the tongue nor on the hand as I was taught I had to take it from the cibororum and then put it in my mouth

Of course I prayed for him. I pray for all priests they need all the prayers they can get.

Write the Bishop. What this Priest did is wrong, directly contrary to the General Instruction of the Roman Missal:
“160. The Priest then takes the paten or ciborium and approaches the communicants, who usually come up in procession.
It is not permitted for the faithful to take the consecrated Bread or the sacred chalice by themselves and, still less, to hand them on from one to another among themselves. The norm established for the Dioceses of the United States of America is that Holy Communion is to be received standing, unless an individual member of the faithful wishes to receive Communion while kneeling (Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, Instruction, Redemptionis Sacramentum, March 25, 2004, no. 91).
When receiving Holy Communion, the communicant bows his or her head before the Sacrament as a gesture of reverence and receives the Body of the Lord from the minister. The consecrated host may be received either on the tongue or in the hand, at the discretion of each communicant. When Holy Communion is received under both kinds, the sign of reverence is also made before receiving the Precious Blood.” (GIRM 160, emphasis mine)

I understand your point as I’m sure Sean does too. But Sean did say he did stand when asked by the priest -
the priest says get up. I do
he tells my sister to take it from the cibororum like its candy. Then he tells me to do it.
Sean was right in not self-communicating from the ciborium!! And there is nothing wrong is saying he wished to receive on the tongue. Again, Sean did nothing wrong here.

Though it seems like you might be right to mute this thread.

And I am grateful that the priest said mass. He still said the mass. I hold priests in a high regard and high standards because every priest that I have known to this point has been excellent and has truly cared and thanks be to God because of these holy men I have grown in my faith and want to be a priest.

Do what Jesus asked us to do …first speak to the priest, then if no understanding, to the pastor and if need be the Bishop …if, and only if the pastor doesn’t speak to the priest. Catholics that run to bishops to tell on priests before speaking with the priest are divisive , especially when it comes to the issue of abortion and birth control mentioned at homilies. Jumping to going to the Cardinal? Don’t people believe in relating to others? It takes courage to speak to the one who offends you.

Yeah my parents are going to talk with him and the pastor. I am not the type to bother the bishop with these things. The bishop is busy and unless its pressing bothering the bishop with little things is wrong.
