Most people don’t know that the roots of Hatha (physical posture) yoga are tied to western gymnastics:

yogajournal.com/article/philosophy/yoga-s-greater-truth/

If this priest believes all yoga to be a gateway to possession by Pazuzu that’s his opinion.
Thanks for that article. It reminded me of “Jumping Jacks” and “Squad Thrusts”, exercises I think we all learned in Jr High school that are actually abrupt shifts into different yoga poses.

After 32 pages on this subject, if you still want to believe yoga is evil, don’t do it.
But do not judge others who benefit from it.
Nobody’s judging. Just passing along important information that the masses are in need of because clearly most Christians are not aware of the spiritual harm.

Just as we’re not aware that the moon is made of green cheese. Because it’s not.

Agreed. And from the looks of this thread, our correspondents should be informed well enough. 👍
Well it comes down to what they chose to believe as being true or not.

When you have Catholic bloggers who are also on EWTN, publishing misinformation along with some Catholic priest who do the same, they’ll side with those because it satisfies their ego-identity attachment to Catholicism.

Yoga is not Catholic and therefore a threat to their ego-identity attachment and attacked as being demonic.

Ironically, I just commented on a thread that was discussing idolatry. It seems rather telling how the Women of Grace camp often act like they’re not guilty of the same behavior all the while implying to accuse others of it. 🤷

And correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t misinformation count as a sin of bearing false witness? 🤷
Yes, but only if you know it’s misinformation.

I don’t see it as dangerous. It is a very good form of exercise. The controversy is probably some of the cultural parts in the religion of Buddhism that are part of yoga.
Yoga is a form of the Buddhist Religion. Its dangerous due to some of the specific positions designed to be prayers to God. Its a violation of the first Commandment and aids empowerment of a creator below God. Exercize is good, but not Yoga. Buddhists use Yoga during Prayer. If your not a Christian, Catholic, Mormon, Baptist, born again etc, then I guess it really doesn’t matter. Otherwise keep in mind while participating, regardless of what the general society says, your in prayer to a different entity even if you believe your not.

I found out my daughters mother enrolled her, i went and took her out immediately during there little session. This is one topic im in complete agreement with the Catholic Pope about.

so if you didnt know murder, stealing, or any other sin is wrong, makes it ok?
Don’t go off the deep end with this.

Not every blogger is a theologian nor experienced with contemplative prayer and such bloggers are often clueless
about deeper levels of prayer and contemplation, as evidence in the articles they
post.

Traditional Yoga came out of Hinduism, not Buddhism.

You’re obviously not qualified to critique what Yoga Exercise is about.

No, it is not. It was developed through the Hindu religion. They are two different religions.

Only if you intend them to be prayers.

Not if you’re practicing the physical part of yoga only. And how can you “aid empowerment of a creator below God” when no such thing exists?
Buddhists use Yoga during Prayer.
Possibly some do. But that has nothing to do with it. Some Buddhists also use the same praying hands position that Catholics do. Are you warning us against that, also?
Otherwise keep in mind while participating, regardless of what the general society says, your in prayer to a different entity even if you believe your not.
You’re claiming you can pray without intending to pray?

Could you give us a source for Pope Francis having said something against yoga?

Yoga exercises are no more evil than are jumping jacks or push-ups, at least as it’s practiced in the West, where it’s almost always more oriented toward physical education than it is Hinduism. It makes you feel healthy and full of life, the same way that long distance running does. Remember, you don’t necessarily have to judge the exercises by the people who originated them.

When I have had back pain I did internet searches like “yoga for back pain”. My interest in yoga is just about the stretching, and its effect on the body. It goes back thousands of years. What other method has such a lengthy history of studying the effects of stretching? An old chiropractor once told me that in his entire career he only had 2 patients who had nothing out of place when they came in for spinal adjustment. One was a yoga teacher and the other was a 10th degree black belt in martial arts.
