Hi everyone,
Yes, sort of a bizarre post. I am interested in knowing whether anyone out there has any stories – personal, or second-hand – about priests who are also working artists, and how they manage to combine their vocations. Poets, painters, musicians, but especially some of the more unusual arts, like filmmaking. As dissimilar as the two paths may sound, the only two strong vocations I have ever felt in my life have been towards the priesthood and towards filmmaking. The expensive, complex, and time-consuming nature of filmmaking doesn’t really jive with the life of a priest, but I was wondering whether anyone knows of anyone who has managed to do this to some degree. For instance, one of my priests in college was also a screenwriter.
Any thoughts? I know this one is a stretch!
Peace,

The Vatican Observatory is staffed by priest-astronomers.

If a priest were to have such an avocation as filmmaking, they would just about have to be assigned to do such.

Since the Franciscans of the Immaculate are involved in the media, they may have film-making priests. As would Mother Angelica’s studio, but I don’t think they’re into production.

HTH.

Blessings,
Cloisters

The Daughters of St. Paul are involved in all sorts of media, including filmmaking.

Surely their counterpart would be doing the same thing, don’t you think?
