Why are you even bringIng such gossip into this? The article is asking for prayers and makes no mention of your ridiculous claim.

Eternal rest grant unto Fr. Harkins, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God,
rest in peace.
Amen.

Let us pray also for all the priests who died in similar circumstances, in dioceses or in eras when the cause of death would have been kept private to avoid any scandal, gossip etc.

It’s brave of the diocese to make the cause of death public. I am sure there is no question about the cause or they wouldn’t be disclosing it. Unfortunately, depression, anxiety, stress, and other mental disorders can badly affect anyone, including priests.

I hope any other priests who feel that they need help will reach out for it and their dioceses will help them so it doesn’t get to this point.

This is heartbreaking news. But wonder if it is true. Organized crime can use suicide as a cover-up and so can any evil minded person try and fool authorities. Just wonder why it is not being investigated more.
I’m sure it was investigated. And this sounds like a farfetched conspiracy theory – why would you even suggest it?

We should pray for this young priest who lost his struggle with depression, and for everyone who dies by suicide. May all of them experience the mercy of our loving God.

Not gossip…far from it…it is questioning. And just read about priests who have suffered in communist countries and anyone who works in areas where there is drugs etc can be harmed. A question is not the same as gossip .
such gossip

Making up scenarios of organized crime being to blame instead of it being what it was, is gossip.

Couldn’t you just have posted the story and left it at that? Or offered a prayer? Instead, you question what happen by making things up.

And where in any article does it state that he was depressed? Assumptions and speculation.
That would be based on his suicide. And on one of his friends asking for prayers for him and for “for all those struggling with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts …”

It might help communication regarding what the church teaches as gossip. I seek no harm to the beloved priest but making false assumption that have not been stated that he was depressed etc are not the same as a. question …conversation is ended…have a peaceful day.

I never said it was not investigated…I said might it need more investigation. “investigated more” is the correct question, not what people are implying I said.
You suggested a truly bizarre scenario involving organized crime and suggested more investigation—where is that even coming from?

. I seek no harm to the beloved priest but making false assumption that have not been stated
You implied he did not die by suicide. That’s where the false assumptions are.
