I attend Mass at a Franciscan Friary which has a Parish Priest and several of the Brothers are also Priests, at Mass we have our regular Priest and sometimes a visiting Franciscan Priest or a Priest that has come with retreatants may also help celebrate the Mass with our own Priest.

Now we have a Priest who uses a frame to walk as he is terminally ill and he sits in the congregation at the front but he wears only the stole, he does not visibly officiate in the Mass, I know he can not climb the steps in to the Sanctuary, so I was wondering is he kind of celebrating the Mass with the Parish Priest?

Any thoughts.

I don’t know the actual rules for it, but I bet he is concelebrating in his heart.

And that HAS to be just as good, if not better.

I honestly do not know what he his doing, I assume he is celebrating, I think it is wonderfull that he is joining in this way, he is very remarkable, he does not seem to let his burden get in the way of his devotion to Christ. When I walk past him to recieve the Blessed Sacraments of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus he is happily singing away, although he sings like a cat being strangled, my eyes always fill with tears because I keep thinking that his love for God must grow stronger every day despite the pain he is in.

If he is wearing a stole I would assume that he is concelebrating. I don’t know of any requirement that all concelebrants be at the altar.
