Priest not serious about Confession?!

It is you that is mistaken. First an act of perfect contrition is almost impossible to make, ask any priest and they will tell you that as well, if you are fortunate enough to make a perfect one you must resolve to go to the next available confession.

If one is in mortal sin and dies if they don’t repent first they are not nor can they ever be saved.

As for being in mortal sin, yes I am and I have no resolution to go to confession so a perfect act of contrition would not help and thus yes I am Hell bound all because I can’t go to confession.

I prefer to believe Archbishop Fulton Sheen who said he much more often encountered Perfect than Imperfect contrition in his own vast experience as a confessor 😉

You don’t intend to go to confession when it is next available to you? Why on earth not?!? Has the priest refused to hear another confession from you? Do you literally have no opportunity to ever get to another parish?
 
The archbishop may have heard more perfect than imperfect, but really God would be the only one to truely judge that.

I have not asked the priest to hear another confession, why he is not a person I can trust he has caused emmense damage to me. I could travel to another parish quite a distance, but possible, however, I am completely terririfed of going into a church and even if I was able to muster the ability to go in there isn’t a hope that I would enter a confessional ever again. It took me 18 years to muster the confidence to go that one time, with his reaction and a few other things I wouldn’t risk it again.

Seek professional counselling with someone who is an expert at phobia or anxiety. Is this sort of fear affecting other areas of your life as well? Or is it just centred around church and confession? Whether it is or not we’re talking about your immortal soul, so do seek help.

But I would have to say if it’s that bad that it took you so long to seek confession in the first place then I’m sure God understands why you feel that you can’t go and won’t condemn you for it. Remember Jesus himself asked for his suffering to be taken away from him.

This is much more complicated than a simple phobia or anxiety which I have neither. I am working with someone, but what has happened with the priest has very much compounded the problem. Could I return to confession, only if I could find a priest that was trust worthy, but to do so would mean I would have to try again to try and trust.

Ever thought about going to a Traditional Catholic parish? ran by the ICRSS or FSSP?

There is no-nonsense in the traditional Priestly formation - Id wager you would find a very good confessor if you head in their direction - that is, if they are available to you/are in your area.

Right now in my area this is the only available priest. I would have to travel a fair distance to find another parish.

It is very difficult to find out what priest belongs to what as most do not put their letters behind there name, the only ones that do in our diocese are the OMI’s so I wouldn’t even know which direction to turn.

I am not in the states either, plus our diocese does not permit TLM masses. So I am out of luck there.

I am resolved that I am destine to hell and for the most part the catholic faith has failed me or I it which ever way you want to look at it.

No-one is destined for hell. Ever. Christ died to save you. YOU. If you were the only person alive on this planet he would die to save YOU alone. Why would he do that if you were destined for hell?

More than that, he wants to save you. His plan is for you to be with him. He is bigger than any problem you may have and can and will give you anything you need. Ask Him for whatever help you need, and don’t stop asking.

If you can’t seek confession for whatever reasons beyond your control or helping, then God understands that too. As long as you’re ***attempting ***to get help - that’s all.

Thanks for this. While I wasn’t in the same situation, your words rang in my head this morning and I knew I had to seek out a priest and ask him to hear my confession.

I don’t really fully understand your situation, but I do sympathize.

You must not despair or give up! There is always hope.

God wants you to go to confession. If your last experience was so terrible, then He knows that. God will find a way for you to make a good confession. You have to be willing to trust God. Jesus died so that you may be saved. He will find some way to make it possible for you to come to Him, but don’t expect it to be easy. Remember, you can always pray for the help of the Holy Spirit.

We all struggle every day to put our trust in Him, and to listen to Him.

Could you perhaps open a channel of communication with this priest and try to let him know you have been hurt? Maybe you could write him a letter, let him know how you feel, and ask for help. Or perhaps you could have someone you trust speak with him for you. I don’t know. There has to be some way. Perhaps you could find out if another priest will be passing through your area, and make arrangements to meat with that priest.

Pray. I know that is hard when you feel cut off from God. Yet, it is important to pray. I have trouble with prayer sometimes when I feel I have done something to reject God. However, that is when we need Him most.

Priests, while capable of acting on the behalf of Christ, remain fully human. They make mistakes. They sin. They even drive people away from the church at times. Perhaps one of the things you need to do is to accept the fact the priests are flawed people. You may even need to offer forgiveness to this particular priest before you can get past this.

Was that biography written by Bernard Ruffin?

If so I am reading that book right now. Strange the author is a Lutheran (well he is Catholic Now but was a lutheran at the time of the writing)

You must not be to scared of hell, or else you would seek out another priest. The Catholic faith fails no one. Now members that make up the Catholic faith (laymen or clergy) might fail you. My advice for what ever its worth, start by saying one hail mary a day asking our Blessed Mother for help. You must be open to grace and help.
 
I met God when i was 6 years old. I recieved salvation that day then i walked away from God at the age of 17 or 18. When he called me out of sin at the age of 35 the first thing he had me to due was ask forgiveness of all my sins from the time i had walked away from him until the day of my return. I did this by confessing my sin to the God of my slavation Jesus Christ and asking forgiveness of my sin in his Name. There was no other person there but he forgave all my sin. He does not make light of sin, nor does he make light of your confession. And he requires not pentence he already paid for my sin. I have nothing greater then the blood of Jesus by which to pay for my sin.
May you come to know him as savior, confessor and redeemer.
 
Your idea of salvation wasn’t even a thought until 1,500 years after Jesus Christ walk on Earth. After the Proetstant Reformation is came to light as did other theological falacies. The foundation of Reconciliation is found throughout scripture, and has been taught since the time of Christ.
