We also need to keep in mind that as we get older our bodies do not regulate temperature as efficiently. Heat waves like we have had in Canada this summer (days of 35C and humidex in the mid-40s) are murder, literally, on the elderly and some 100 or so elderly people died during the heat wave. The same goes for extreme cold. I can say for certain that being 60 and diabetic I don’t handle temperature extremes as well as when I was 20 and healthy.
We don’t know the priest’s age. I’d cut him a lot of slack. Nobody is called to pass out while celebrating Mass, and comparisons to relatively young soldiers in the desert are extremely rude and uncharitable.
