there is no over reacting at all what that priest said would bother me also we had a liberal priest at our parish who would allow his noncatholic friends to receive communion and as a convert that really upset me because when i was going through instructions from another priest who taught me what the Catholic church really teaches not once before I came into full communion with the Church did i go up to receive communion. The liberal priest we had even allowed his noncatholic friends to be eucharistic ministers well after he retired we got one of the auxillary bishops that was elected in our diocese who is very orthodox as you can guess he took out the eucharistic ministers that were not catholic like he should have we also have another priest in residense who teaches the truth in his homilies so yes you have every right to be upset with the comments of this certain priest

What you are describing here are actual observable abuses by the priest.
This is not evident in the OP. What I gathered from the OP was that the priest gave orthodox answers but tacked on the comment at the end. Also we have no evidence that this priest, dispite his own personal opinions, does anything unorthodox in his ministry.

So - While the OP may be bothered by the comment and seek clarification, there is no reason to derail the RCIA class over the matter. Seek clarification in private.

Peace
James

Absolutely agree with you, JRKH, and I’m glad that the OP feels calmer about it now.

Hi. I haven’t posted too much, but I check the forum often and you have all been a true help to me. Thank you so much.

I am attending the RCIA since I never was confirmed as a teenager. Our priest talked to us tonight and at the end he answered questions. One of the men asked him why non-Catholics can’t receive Communion. The priest went into a detailed explanation and it was very informative. But at the end he said, “It really makes sense not to allow non-Catholics to receive communion, but if I could be Pope for a day there are some things I would change.”

I’m not usually over-sensitive to things, but when our priest said this it really upset me. I could feel my heart sink and I wanted to cry. Is that crazy? It felt like he didn’t have faith in the Catholic teachings. I don’t know… am I blowing this way out of proportion?
This was really a very inappropriate thing for the Priest to say… There are somethings not even the Pope can change. The meaning of communion is one of those very things.

All Clergy are requred to be obediant to the their ordianry and to the teachings of the Church. There is probebly not on who might who would not want to change something given the chance, but all understand that’s not how the Church works.

Since he comments was after an explaination of the recieving the Eucharist, there are some who believe that the Church could reach out more if we had an open table.
