So I’m seeing a priest about truly examining my conscience and withholding mortal sins and going to ask him to help me make a perfect examination of conscience, but do you have any advice to make this not a “waste” of a session? Like not in vain but truly get something in the depth of my heart of out it?

No, let your priest help you. That is why you are seeing him, is it not?

Yes but I feel dishonest like I can’t get all my thoughts out when I talk to him and then I feel I can’t trust his advice because I wasn’t spontaneous and honest

Well, you need to tell him that because only he can absolve you, not us.

Pray about it now. Ask God to help you at your meeting, and then relax. The priest has done this before. You are nothing new to him.

A good father is wonderfully pleased with his children when they freely choose to seek his help, especially when they have recognized they are in darkness and are wanting the light.

Our priestly fathers are the same. It is an honor for them to help us out of the darkness.

Trust that the more honestly you can contritely share your wretchedness, the sooner you will be freed from all sins and basking in the joy of the light of Christ!

He said I’m free to receive Eucharist daily. Due to my condition. I feel peace after receiving it. But when I get home I fall into despair. It’s like I take one step forward and two steps back. I get so discouraged at home. But again I feel peace when receiving it.

Aaron, perhaps you can have your priest come bless your home or apartment. Maybe knowing your home is blessed, you will think of that and feel a sense of joy instead of despair.

I would also suggest that you find a piece of Catholic art, a print of a painting, a copy of an icon or a sculpture that brings you peace when you look at it.

Do you have an area set up, on a small table or bookcase, in a corner or somewhere, where you can set out a crucifix and some other reminders of your faith? In times of despair, you could sit in that area and read your bible or prayer book, say the rosary or “freestyle” some prayers. Maybe have a scented candle that you like and find soothing.

I agree with Irishmom. Ask the priest to bless your home, get a holy water font, and invest in some statues or religious art that you like. Make your home a peaceful place with God’s blessing and your prayer.

Keep growing in prayer, especially the Sacraments, and recognize that as you grow in holiness, Satan will attack you harder because you are becoming a greater threat to his influence over people.

Please consider praying for me because I too struggle with dispair.

Sometimes I will gravely sin, but Reconciliation services are cancelled for the week, so I repent privately until I have the opportunity to reconcile. What happens is that during the time of private repentance, I don’t feel any temptations to sin, and as soon as I receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, that day or the following, temptations will be on the rise.

Well in that time of private repentance, I am out of purity and oneness with God, and I am no longer a threat to Satan. However, during the state of pure holiness after Reconciliation, I am a threat.

Please offer your dispair up to God for the conversion of lost souls.
