A simple answer without long irrelevant quotations.

And there’s still the question of whether this was one-time or a regular occurrence. Right now, for example, I have a cold. Having coughed and sneezed into my hands, were I a priest I would not want to distribute the hosts and infect everyone else. If I handled the chalice I could at least suggest everyone wash their hands after receiving.
