Oh, dear. I just looked at the link. I’m not the most conservative person in the world, but this would cause me to write to the bishop or someone. What was this guy thinking!?
But is that bringing the Gospel, or is it bringing Superman?Relax people! I respect this man for thinking of new ways to bring the.Gospel to these people. Look at the fruit that is bearing.
Just be thankful he doesn’t use a Super Soaker, eh?Dear me…just found this on CNN:
cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_c2#/video/world/2013/02/27/pkg-romo-mexico-superhero-priest.cnnTo think I see it as being somewhat out of common that our priest uses a brush to sprinkle water…
There isn’t…and he can use superheroes and super-soakers to do that.He is bringing the gospel because he is relating God to these superheroes. The gospel is not about cassocks, birettas, or Latin prayers but about Love for God and others. Why do we think that there is only one way to bring Christ to others?
A superhero priest posing with a super-soaker- what a great cover idea for the next issue of America magazine! There isn’t…and he can use superheroes and super-soakers to do that.
JUST NOT DURING THE MASS!
I wonder just what these kids are remembering - to feed the hungry and clothe the naked or that they had fun with the priest during MASS being squirted with holy water from a toy. Tell me how this egregiously irreverent display teaches them the gifts of the Holy Spirit, two of them being piety and fear ( or awe) of the Lord? And by all means, please tell me how this teaches them about the greatest gift of all - The Real Presence upon our altars. He is bringing the gospel because he is relating God to these superheroes. The gospel is not about cassocks, birettas, or Latin prayers but about Love for God and others. Why do we think that there is only one way to bring Christ to others?
For me that is the main point.I wonder just what these kids are remembering - to feed the hungry and clothe the naked or that they had fun with the priest during MASS being squirted with holy water from a toy. Tell me how this egregiously irreverent display teaches them the gifts of the Holy Spirit, two of them being piety and fear ( or awe) of the Lord? And by all means, please tell me** how this teaches them about the greatest gift of all - The Real Presence upon our altars.**
I laughed at your irony. Then I saw you quoting Fr. Arrupe, and I’m terrified you are actually serious.Relax people! I respect this man for thinking of new ways to bring the.Gospel to these people. Look at the fruit that is bearing.
Are you serious?!? This is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass we’re talking about. He is bringing the gospel because he is relating God to these superheroes. The gospel is not about cassocks, birettas, or Latin prayers but about Love for God and others. Why do we think that there is only one way to bring Christ to others?
Yes, what this priest is doing is wonderful, especially for those children and yes, I was moved by this story. He is certainly parting with tradition with his methods and it seems he has not changed how the Eucharist is performed. Though, I am not sure why he can’t do this when not attending Mass in his relations with the people and perform Mass the traditional way. In any case I agree with you the Gospel has far more to do with helping families who are struggling, meeting the needs of children and making them smile, and doing your best to walk in Christ’s footsteps and this priest seems to have all these three on “lockdown”. In other words he knows the Master whom he serves. He is bringing the gospel because he is relating God to these superheroes. The gospel is not about cassocks, birettas, or Latin prayers but about Love for God and others. Why do we think that there is only one way to bring Christ to others?
Good catch! So are we speaking of bringing the gospel mandate to these children or preparing them for political revolution?I laughed at your irony. Then I saw you quoting Fr. Arrupe, and I’m terrified you are actually serious.
