The Rev. Gerard L. Branconnier, who was removed from ministry after allegations were made that he sexually abused minors, had a gay marriage ministry in operation 15 years before it was legal in this state. However, gay marriage is not “legal” in the Roman Catholic church, which has opposed gay marriage and opposes adoption of children to same-sex couples.

Paul A. Guries of Auburn, who settled a suit with the Catholic Worcester diocese, has released a copy of a video that shows Father Branconnier in 1989 marrying two men in a traditional Catholic marriage rite. The video is available here through the auspices of Mr. Guries.

What is even more amazing is that Mr. Guries turned over a copy of the video to Monsignor Edmond T. Tinsley in 1993 after he settled his lawsuit with the diocese where he alleged sexual abuse by Father Branconnier when he was a 16-year-old parishioner at North American Martyrs Church in Auburn. The diocese has had the video since then but no public notification of its existence was ever made by the diocese. Bishop Timothy J. Harrington was bishop at the time the video was received by the diocese and no action was taken. Bishop Daniel P. Reilly came into the diocese in 1994 and still no mention was made of the video.

Full story .
I just don’t get it…

Then the Video, if it is still available, should be sent to the new Bishop with a note suggesting that previous Bishop may have decided that he didn’t need to see it. At the same time, a copy should be sent to the Holy Father in Rome.

I don’t think these kind of abuses occur without the complicity of the immediate authorities. That means the immediate authorities were disobeying Rome along with the priests in question.

There are times when good conscience requires disobedience of those who are disobeying Rome and the Teaching Authority of the Church.

The video is here on the website: worcestervoice.com/Current%20news.htm

This is unbelievable, however nonethless true…:banghead:

I wonder how much more blatant dissent has been shoved under the rug by our divinely appointed shepherds? Thank God we have the Pope and Magisterium to define what is truth for us.

Hmmm… gay marriage and child sexual abuse from the same priest. Who would have thunk it? :hmmm:

Of course these gay “marriages” are as valid as consecrating pickles for the Eucharist. Invalid matter invalidates the sacrament.

Am I missing something here? What would be the point of publishing the video when the priest has already been removed from ministry? Seems like the Bishop acted prudently.

Welcome to my world - Massachusetts has been off the rails for quite a while. It can be tough living in this state and trying to be a faithful Catholic. There are just so many bad examples here.

My sentiments exactly! It’s time to move on!

And PRAY for the Church instead of pointing out all the “dirty laundry”…

If nobody ever pointed out all the “dirty laundry”, how would the leaders of our Church (the bishops), ever be called to account or to take any steps in correcting these injustices?

For years Catholics have turned a blind eye in obedience to their bishops for the many abuses they failed to act upon with their full knowledge (Remember Cardinal Law?). The 2002 sex-abuse scandals may mostly be over, but I for one will not remain silent when abuses are knowingly facilitated by our bishops. If you disagree, that is fine, but I for one will not buckle under.

And yes, I for one do pray for our Church.:gopray:

Okay, time to move on, since charity seems to of run out here…
