Priest Withholds Eucharistic Cup

This past Sunday, because of the flu, our pastor has decided that the Precious Blood will not be offered to the congregation, and that the congregation should not hold hands at the “Our Father” or shake hands at the Sign of Peace. This will remain in effect until further notice. For a traditionalist like me this was a definite improvement in the Holy Mass. The sign of peace was not only much shorter, but much quieter, since people were not moving around to shake hands with everyone over the length of several pews. It helped take the center of Mass off the congregation and back to Jesus’ sacrifice on the altar.

And to think it was caused in the name of viral protection. God works in mysterious ways!

Something else to consider is that we are not required to receive Holy Communion under both species.

I’m, sure that benedictgal knows this, but it’s also worth mentioning that one does NOT have to receive communion at every Mass. In fact, the Church only mandates that we receive only once per year (as a minimum).
