yeah, i mean the Pope has whatever the pope hat is called, which outranks the biretta in coolness, so why would he
Does he have a special hat? I thought he just had a skullcap and a mitre like bishops but that his skullcap was white?
Of course HH B16 has added the santa hat one

i was talking about the mitre. The coolest part of which is that it folds up

The “santa hat” is called the camauro, something we hadn’t seen since John XXIII, but was worn by nearly every Pope for a century before that.

As for the biretta, the Pope doesn’t wear one. The Pope’s “choir” headwear is the Papal tiara, which Benedict doesn’t wear.
 
If I was a Priest,I would were a cassock and a biretta daily
 
One of my classmates is a seminarian for the Diocese of Rome. He is required to wear the collar and so I normally see him wandering around in a suit with the collar or in the cassock when he is serving Mass.
