I don’t know any of the background on the arrests described but , put it this way: I live in a developed western country which is currently in lockdown - so no public gatherings of any kind. If I was to celebrate a mass publicly (and presumably tell people in advance so that they knew to be there) I could expect the police or public health authorities to contact me and tell me “don’t do that”. I could expect a “what do you think you’re doing” e-mail or phone call from my bishop. If I was to do it again, I would most probably be arrested.
The whole idea of suspending gatherings and social-distancing is to protect the community - especially the most vulnerable. To act in defiance of this isn’t just irresponsible it’s morally wrong because it places others in the community at unnecessary risk.
