Is this FUR real? There is no dogma about this but I think this is inappropriate unless I’m barking up the wrong tree. I’m just your usual dogsbody. Not sure I can help. Don’t put me in the doghouse though.

😛

This is my prediction of what will happen on this thread
First this :slapfight:
Then this:stretcher:
And finally:blackeye:

And here’s me 🍿
Actually the entertainment value of this thread is better than I thought it would. I’ve seem some genuinely witty responses.

Can I just ask what your purpose is in posting pictures of this event online? How does that help matters?

If you have concerns, I would encourage you to follow the protocol.
I guess you are saying I should be grateful my computer did not download the photo!

My daughter went on vacation down to the coast from Atlanta with some friends of the family and described exactly what you described, a dog which sat quietly in the narthex and then carried the missal in his mouth during the recessional.

My daughter laughed at first, but then wondered out loud if it was appropriate.

Down the coast from Atlanta probably put her in “my” parish, actually… wouldn’t surprise me at all if it was the same church. I think the dog is a yellow lab, and the church has one of the most epic crucifixes I have ever seen (in fact, if I could transplant that crucifix to the parish I attend, I would pronounce that we had the “perfect” church building from my point of view).

Being considered by a forward thinking liturgy committee somewhere is …

youtube.com/watch?v=L6yzjDXp_og <Kitties singing Joy Joy Joy

Though it’s not a DOGma, so far the kitties are not allowed in Mass yet, not even in their animated version!

But the *SONG IS! *

“The Lord loves kittens,” said Hope Forchange a sometime Catholic who’d consider returning to the Church if her cats could come too, “Discriminating against them should be a feline-y.”

“CATHOLIC begins with a CAT proceeds to the holi and ends with a lic,” the dissident spokesperson emphasized, “THAT’'s what I think!”

Yes, in the vicinity of Destin. The Mass was August 5.

My daughter described it exactly as you did, as did my close friend who chaperoned the trip.

I was not there, and no one has ever accused me of being a trad, but I really want to ask where we draw the line. The pastor of my Church would blow a gasket if someone brought a dog other than a service dog into the Church after Mass.

Note that I sent my daughter to your area with lots of money which she gladly spent on overpriced coffee, useless trinkets, expensive meals and other such economic stimuli. Please don’t hate her. 😛

Sounds like the Catholic Bear!

"An atheist was taking a walk through the woods, admiring all that evolution had created.

“What majestic trees! What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals!”, he said to himself. As he was walking along the river, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. When he turned to see what the cause was, he saw a 7-foot grizzly charging right towards him. He ran as fast as he could. He looked over his shoulder and saw that the bear was closing, He ran even faster, crying in fear. He looked over his shoulder again, and the bear was even closer. His heart was pounding and he tried to run even faster. He tripped and fell on the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up, but saw the bear right on top of him, reaching for him with his left paw and raising his right paw to strike him.

At that moment, the Atheist cried out “Oh my God!..” Time stopped. The bear froze. The forest was silent. Even the river stopped moving.
As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky, “You deny my existence for all of these years; teach others I don’t exist; and even credit creation to a cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I to count you as a believer?”

The atheist looked directly into the light “It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask You to treat me as Christian now, but perhaps could you make the bear a Christian?” “Very well,” said the voice.

The light went out. The river ran again. And the sounds of the forest resumed.

And then the bear dropped his right paw … brought both paws together…bowed his head and spoke: “Bless us, Oh Lord, and these Thy gifts which we are about to receive…”

“But …but…but… at THAT point the guy wouldn’t be an ATHEIST anymore …” < I love people who analyze the funny RIGHT out of the joke, don’t YOU? 😉

Mehehehehe…hoo ha…BWAHAHAHAHAHA 😃

I’ve seen dogs better behaved in and out of church then some parishioners!
Sadly, this is all too true.My dog used to know when we were praying before supper, so she’d lay down and put her head down and wait until we were done before she’d start begging for food.

I love the joke about the Catholic bear 😃 👍

As for dogs at Mass, a parishionerat my church brings his dog, acting as a support dog of some kind, to Mass with him (the dog wears an yellow vest). The dog lies down by his side on the floor of the pew. It’s a golden labrador and is well behaved. To be honest when I first saw the dog it made me wish I could bring my own into church too. But then, mine would likely be a nuisance and a distraction as he is a restless sort

Support dogs are one thing, pets are another.

We (‘generic we) always can find a ‘reason’ to disobey a rule. Humanity is talented that way. "Warm-n-fuzzy’ anecdotes, pained comments about how the Church should be working on ‘bigger’ issues, the every popular "what would JESUS do-’, etc.

If all the facts are in and in FACT this priest does not ‘need’ the dog as a service dog but just ‘wants’ him there (having developed many ‘reasons’ to support his wants), then he needs his bishop to remind him that he (the priest) is there to minister to the people of the church, not to put into practice his own ideas about how ‘the Church’ should be doing things differently when it comes to having animals at Mass.

But since I can’t be sure I have all the facts, I will just hope that the bishop (who SHOULD have the facts) does what needs to be done, and that the priest will through the grace of God accept that and go on, without complaint, to do his priestly duty.

Yup. I see no problem at all with having a dog, or cat, in Church. They are creatures of God too. If people are so out of touch with nature, that they  when they see an animal in Church, then I think that’s really sad. I’m happy for a priest who has a pet companion in his life and I think it’s great when he tries to involve that pet companion in the community by letting the pet in Church or going to functions. Don’t see an issue with it at all whatsoever. People just need something to complain about. It’s part of the drama.
well why stop THERE, Rence? Only the PRIEST gets to have his dog? Why not open up the Church to anybody who wants to bring Fido or Kitty. . .or Iggy the iguana or Sam the snake or the Bubble Guppies? Heck, why not get rid of the 'walls of the church and let in the wasps and the hornets and the pooping pigeons etc? They’re all God’s creatures. It’s not like Mass is anything other than a big get-together anyway, so why not have everybody come in PJs and with pets and I phones and boom boxes and LOTS and LOTS of food and drink, so they can play with the pets, listen to music, and chow down during our community event, all comfy and cozy. . .

Exactly 👍 There’s a time and a place for everything. I go to Mass to worship, when I want the zoo, I’ll go to the zoo.

My parish’s priest brings his dog into the church. Very, very inappropriate. Needless to say, I don’t go near the church these days.

Didn’t edit in time… but I should also state that the priest tosses doggy treats for the dog to fetch, and even throws them into the sanctuary.
