This might be the wrong place for this if so I apologize. I have read before on here that there is a book that priests have that give them guidelines for how the church handles certain subjects during confession. I was looking for the name of this book. For the life of me I can’t remember where I read this on here. Could someone educate me please. 🙂 Thank you ahead of time for your response.

Never heard of such a thing though it seems possible. 🤷

However, we laymen don’t really need such a book since our own need is to carry out a good examination of conscience (and there are a lot of good online and hardcopy resources for this) so that we make a good confession, okay?

Our Sunday Visitor has a couple of excellent ones.

This pocket guide is meant to serve as an aid to such a varied group as those who:

  • Are making their First Confession
  • Have been away from this sacrament for some time
  • Are waiting for a “sign” that God can forgive whatever horrible sin has been committed
You will find:
  • Answers to basic questions about Confession
  • Help in preparing to make a good Confession by examining your conscience and praying before you celebrate the sacrament
  • A walk through the sacrament
  • How to use the experience of the Apostle Peter as a model for your own ongoing conversion to Jesus Christ.

Package of 50 ISBN: 978-1-59276-025-1 ID #: P76 Copyright: 2003 Pages: 1 Format: Pamphlet Availability: Usually ships next business day https://catalog.osv.com/Cart.aspx?OpCode=Add&ProductCode=P76

Many Catholics avoid the Sacrament of Reconciliation simply because they don’t remember how to confess their sins. They simply don’t know what to say and are too embarrassed to ask.
How to Make a Good Confession, the newest pamphlet from Our Sunday Visitor, gives Catholics those words, describing the actions and responses for each step of the sacrament. It also serves as a practical guide to a thorough examination of conscience, asking a series of commandment-based real-world questions. Even those familiar with the steps of the sacrament will benefit from a more thoughtful confession.
Equally as important, How to Make a Good Confession will inspire Catholics to seek reconciliation by reminding them of the great grace and peace they can receive when they ask for God’s endless mercy.
This pamphlet is perfect for display in the back of the church or near the reconciliation room - parishioners can read it as they prepare for confession, or take it with them for reference. Use this pamphlet as a bulletin insert or mail it with other parish materials - it’s a wonderful way to remind parishioners to seek God’s forgiveness through the sacrament.

Thank you for your replies. I guess more information was called for here. (how to explain) I am not Catholic yet. I am working on it. 😉 But I have a friend here on the forums that is getting VERY conflicting advice on her situation from several priests. One of four actually gave her the true answer based on the catechism. My wife and I are in the same situation and we are trying to help clarify things for her. I had seen somewhere on here mention of a book that is sent to priests that gives specific church answers to some of the harder general questions that they face in confession. I was then curious is that why she is getting such conflicting advice. I wanted the name of the book so that I could try to research this further. Clear as mud I know. 🙂 Thanks again for your links. I have looked through them.

Peace to you.

Just as an aside I don’t know that this book is available online. I bet probably not, but I thought it couldn’t hurt to ask. 🙂

Thanks again.

I think that is close enough to what I was remembering. Thank you very much it did help.

😃 👍
