I have just returned from our Parish office where I have been helping to prepare our Parish Newsletter for the coming Sunday. While working there I saw a copy of the Prayers of the Faithful that are prepared weekly by the Priest on duty. This week it is being prepared by one of our newer curates.

I was amazed to see that Pope Benedict was not mentioned until prayer 4. The prayer went something like this.

We pray for Pope Benedict XVI that God’s Holy Spirit will fill him with compassion, and help him to realise that noone has a monopoly on the Truth.
Lord Hear us…

This prayer will be read out at all Masses on Sunday. Now maybe I am taking it up incorrectly. I have gently asked the Parish Secretary, to have a gentle word with the Parish Priest to see if he thinks it is ok.

To me it seems that our dear curate is misusing the occassion of the General Intercessions to push a personal opinion.

Any thoughts?

Oh man!
Somehow I knew this would happen!
Our Holy Father has an uphill battle in some places.

Gee, I thought that the Prayers of the Faithful were prepared, not by individual priests, but by the Diocese. I know that is how things work in my diocese–no matter which church you go to, on Sunday the same Prayers of the Faithful are used in each church. The only exception is where we pray for the dead, obviously each individual parish prays for individual dead parishioners.

Did you contact your diocese to see if this is allowed? If it’s not, maybe your priests didn’t know, or got into the habit under the bad old days or something? Do check it out. . .this sounds a tad suspicious to me. . .

What a shame 😦

It’s exactly that kind of priest that the Holy Father is going to reign in in future ( I hope)

That is an outrage…you should go see your Priest about it immediately…if he won’t listen…go to the Bishop…do something…I would openly object to any trash like that being said at Mass. That should not and will not be tolerated. I hope and pray that doesn’t happen in my parish…even though I have run into to some pretty anti B-16 people…but I have quickly put them in their place…with charity of course.

A little editorializing in the prayer, I’d say. Very disrespectful.

My priest, the Sunday after JPII’s death gave a very long sermon explaining how the papacy is an unneccessary expression of the Petrine ministry. From other comments he’s made, I suspect he had differences with the Pope over some matters, but I hardly thought that was the time nor place to say something like that.

I guess people are pretty proud of their own opinions and respectul obedience is not valued as it once was.

That is very sad and a disgrace. If you talk to your priest, do you think he may change the wording to be more favorable and supportive?

Oh that’s just awful.

I’d definitely go to your priest NOW to ask him to change that wording.

If he declines then let him know you will be sending a copy of his petition to the diocese and archdiocese offices,

and let him know you will continue to do so until he shows the proper respect for that portion of the mass.

He can save his editorializing for the bulletin Letter from the Pastor or for his parish lecture series, even his homily…but not as part of the Mass.

It’s left wing snottiness. They all think they know more than anyone else. That would be enough for me to change parishes or at least complain to the bishop.

None has a monopoly on truth!!! So who does? The moral relativists? More of our truth and your truth are OK, bs.

There is only one truth. It is a monopoly all by itself.

Whew,

My pastor was almost giddy with excitement over the election.

Wed night we had a Mass of Celebration over the election, and his homily was full of praise for our new pontiff. He even talked about how he ran into him, quite literally, as my pastor was coming out of a library in Rome, just as then Cardinal Ratzinger was entering.

Just to fill you in.

A copy of the Prayers have been submitted to the Parish Priest for his persual. We told him we needed his advice on their content. See the local curates make out the prayers week by week and simply submit them to the office for publication.
Our dear PP took them read them over and over, took a photocopy and said nothing else and left.

We will find out tomorrow whether we are running with them or not. I have a letter ready if it is decided to leave them as they are.

Enough is enough.

Everday we*** MUST*** pray for our fearless shepard. The task at hand would make most men pass out from fear and worry. Benedict must know that we love him and are praying for him. ***We cannot abandon him in his hour of need. ***This is the Vicar of Christ on earth, who fills the chair of Peter. Those who speak harshly of him or attempt to stop the work God has for him at this time should tremble before an Almighty and powerful God!! Say rosarys for him daily, fall before the blessed sacrament and make intercessions for him. Fast and do penances for our beloved Holy father and graces will pour out from heaven like rain! We cannot leave him to do the task alone. Blessed Mother hold him close to your Immacualte Heart!!

I think that I would if I were typing these up I would mistype that line.

That is totally inappropriate.

Hooray and hooray for your pastor!

A few years ago I stumbled across the Cardinal Ratzinger Fan Club and promptly joined … and bought a couple of their coffee mugs. I bought two more yesterday evening as my present one is fading. The other one that I bought those years ago I gave to my parish priest as a Father’s Day gift.

I’m seriously saddened to learn that Priests are using the pulpit to spread disrespect for either JPII or Pope Benedict XVI. May I suggest you seriously take action against this behavior. It weakens the church and this stuff has gone on for far too long.

Actually it is a CANONICAL CRIME to talk in a negative way against the POPE or his LOCAL Bishop (any priest!!).

I got a “Proud 2 be Papist” bumpersticker yesterday.
“Fighting heresy since 1981” is just the best.

I got the buttons too, one for me, one for hubby and one for Father Ben!
