Priests have it in for Benedict XVI

As my brother being a priest, when he heard that Ratzinger became Pope, he was thrilled! However, he told me that his Pastor is not. Let’s just say that if the Pastor had something to throw at the TV he would have.

As for my Pastor, he is overwhelmed and said that the choice was Certainly Lead by The Holy Spirit. Then he said it was THE LOGICAL choice to follow John Paul II, the Great.

We were quite giddy here, too. When I saw Father at Mass the morning after the election, there was a festive feeling in the air!

I suspect, though, that in the diocese from which Father came, and others in the diocese in which we are presently, there are many who are not happy with Benedict XVI.

I truly hope corrective action is taken against the originator of that awful ‘intention’.

***Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum!! :clapping:

We received back the copy of the Prayers of the Faithful from our beloved PP and he has changed the contentious one.

It now reads “Let us pray for Our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI that the Holy Spirit will fill him with compassion and courage and help him in his mission of ******passing on the faith in all its fulness.”

Amen!!

Benedict XVI. . . May He Live a Hundred Years!
I was on my way to a deanery meeting with my pastor when I heard that there was white smoke over the Vatican. When we arrived at the parish hosting the meeting, fortunately, instead I getting to the business of discussing diocesan assessments, we went into the hosting pastor’s living room to watch the historical event. Sadly they had ABC on, so I had to endure the insipid comments of Rev. Richard McBrien. When Pope Benedict XVI was announced, I think I was the only one to cheer. At least it shut the yap of McBrien – I don’t think he was able to talk for 5 minutes he was so distaught.

Then the delusional talk of the left began. One of the group I was with actually put forth that this was just an “honorary” thing, and that there was probably an agreement in place that he would resign the papacy when he turned 80. Then it was, “Well, I heard that he really tried to temper the conservatism of Pope John Paul II. Remember he was considered a liberal theologian at the 2nd Vatican Council, so maybe he will show his true colors.” Ah, yes, his “true colors” is that he is an orthodox Catholic who believes in teaching and living the authentic teaching of the Church, including the “spirit and letter of the Second Vatican Council” (I think I have Cardinal Schonborn to thank for that phrase to contradict the insipid, “spirit of Vatican II”-ers; maybe “Jack” isn’t the only one who cannot read, maybe we should get “hooked on phonics” for all the crazy liberal/heterodox theologians so they could actually read the documents of the 2nd Vatican Council).

The reaction of too many clerics have been SHAMEFUL. On permanent deacon, I am told, in front of a group of Protestant ministers, when he heard the news said “I quit! Do any of you need a deacon?” If I was there I would have said, “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out,” then I would be on the phone to the chancery to have his faculties revoked. My sister’s pastor (in NC) also felt it necessary to publicly gripe about the new Vicar of CHRIST. The whole thing reminds me of Scripture (see, since they can’t read, they don’t know Scripture either) when Gamaliel, “the teacher of the law,” warned the Sanhedrin about possibly opposing God (cf. Acts 5:33-39).

Thus once more I say to His Holiness, Benedict XVI, “May you live a hundred years.”

This thread really has me saddened. I realize that our priests are sinners like all of us but I really expect more from them as the expression of such dissent on their part translates to me in a lack of faith in the Lord and his plan for us individually and that of the entire world. So while we should always pray for our Pope let’s make an effort to pray for our priests as well that their faith may be strengthened when needed.

But to help out also, let’s not be afraid to speak up when we see such wrong doings. I’m happy and grateful things worked out at Fergal’s parish.

Viva il Papa!

Bless you for speaking up on behalf of our Holy Father.

Fergal,

You have done an excellent thing!! I’m am so happy to know that you have helped prevent scandal in your parish and have avoided having the Priest’s lack of respect being broadcast from the pulpit.

THANK YOU!

If we all just do our little bit, the world will improve!

Oh and Fitz, thanks for the link! 🙂

**Everyone on this site can just get ready for it.

The first and front line of hatred directed toward the Pope in America will come from the Priest.
Before the Liberals on the Left Coast can react, our own parish priest will show hatred for Our Pope.

Remember when Paul VI wrote Humani Vitae?
The Jesuits in America were blasting him in the New York Times before the work was even published!!

Just get ready for it.

He may just be the Pope that will have to suffer much according to prophecy.

We just thought it was JPII, but I feel Ratzinger will be a our suffering Pope.

The only thing we can to is love him and pray for him.

If he is attacked in my presence it is my intent to defend him. I guess we’d better get some good discussions going regarding his works. I need to get informed so I have something to work with in defending him, beyond “He’s the Pope, and a great Theologean”.

This is nothing new. I forget which pope this was but when Napoleon went to visit him, Napoleon looked at the pope and said, “I am going to destroy your Church.” And the pope replied, “The priests have been trying for over 1,500 years to destroy the Church and they have not succeeded. You won’t either.”

I went to church tonight and we celebrated Pope Benedict XVI’s election. We prayed for him and had a beautiful mass with some very spiritual music. They are holding another special mass tomorrow to celebrate again. My pastor was wonderful in his homily. He is taking a group to World Youth Day and he said they are so looking forward to seeing our new Pope. I was so very happy that he spoke so wonderfully of our new Pope. He also said there is no room for Americans to be calling our newly elected spiritual leader names like rotweiller. He addressed the topic of Cafeteria Catholic. I was very happy about the whole thing, and very relieved after reading these posts earlier.

I returned from Mass this morning so upset, our priest, never mentioned our new Pope, not one word!!! He did insert his name in the Eucharistic prayer, but seemed like that was a struggle. My daughter said maybe he doesn’t know, I had to explain that he does. I just do not uderstand why he didn’t say the words I longed to hear in Mass this morning… Habemus Papam!!!

I am trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he wasn’t prepared and will discuss it next week, maybe the bullitons were already at the printer and he couldn’t add it…I may have to find another parish. My heart is broken. Please pay for Fr. George.

thank you,
God bless,
chris

We seem to have more vocations to the papacy than we do to the priesthood!! —KCT

That happened at our church as well except our Parish Priest accidently inserted Pope John Paul II’s name out of habit and had to correct himself which set off some nervous laughter. I think that was the Holy Spirit’s way of making it a point to emphasize Pope Benedict XVI’s name otherwise it would have just blended right into the rest of the words.

My pastor is from Germany and is VERY pleased. If it had been Cardinal Arinze, I’m not so sure…not due to race or anything, just doctrine.

Is there something wrong with Cardinal Arinze’s doctrine??? I had heard he’s very orthodox and traditional when it comes to Church teaching.

Was I misinformed?

Our assistant pastor ignored the new Pope during his homily today. His homily was on the latest, local, social justice issue that was on his mind. A worthy topic, but not for every one of his homilies, and not for the first Sunday Mass after a new Pope is elected. Most of the comments I’ve heard around our church have been negative. I’ve heard the term ‘scarey’ several times. I’ve noticed I’m the only one who sticks up for him.
