I love to see the Church definitively make statements like this. In our modern world of anything goes we must hold fast to sacred teachings.

A month or two ago someone in a Catholic women’s Facebook group shared a photo of a sign that a priest had placed on the confessional door. It explained that confession wasn’t being held to protect the priests.

It seems like historians nowadays want to dismiss his experience as a martyred confessor as being a “pious legend”. Given that he actually went through a formal canonization process, this would mean that the Pope made a mistake declaring him a saint. I would hope God would keep his church from making an error like that on such an important topic. In any event, many churches including in US and also another saint (St. John Nepomucene Neumann) were named after him.
