Are Priests able to celebrate Holy Mass alone. It was my understanding prior to V-2 that all Priests were obligated to celebrate Mass daily either alone or in the presence of the faithful.
Can. 904 Remembering always that in the mystery of the eucharistic sacrifice the work of redemption is exercised continually, priests are to celebrate frequently; indeed, daily celebration is recommended earnestly since, even if the faithful cannot be present, it is the act of Christ and the Church in which priests fulfill their principal function.
While priests are greatly encouraged to celebrate Mass daily it is not required of them. While celebration with the faithful is preferred, the canon states that it is not required that a member of the faithful be present.
