We are called to love God with all of our hearts, mind, and soul. Surely a person who desires to do so is not going to be content only with what he or she gets from their priest at Mass. I was told from my childhood that the Church was right, but that didn’t mean I believed it—I did check it out. I just don’t think that the average person is that isolated that they only get their information from one priest. If they truly are living in the jungles of Batswaanaland and have such a priest, God is not going to hold THEM accountable for the priest’s sins. I just don’t see this as an effective argument against apostolic succession.True. But if you are constantly told “the Church is right” from when you were a child not many people will go and check things. If I was a true believer I wouldn’t check anything. If we should read our own Bible and our Catechism, that suggests that we are allowed to interpret it on our own to try to find out if what the Priest is saying is true. I didn’t think that was a good idea…it sounds like a Protestant viewpoint there. Do you see where I am coming from with that? Maybe I just don’t understand what you are saying?
And my question then is…how do we know when they are making mistakes?
