Primary Reason for Attending the Mass?

And, yes, people today have lost a sense of sin. God is a God of Love and Mercy, they have been told, so He understands and forgives them their ‘foibles and peccadillos’. Sins are things like murde or armed robbery, not something decent people like ‘us’ ever have to be concerned with.

Our TLM has Confession before Mass every Sunday and our PP has told his NO congregation that they could take a lesson from the TLM people about going to the sacrament more frequently.
One of our deacons at Our Lady of the Atonement Church in San Antonio (already discussed in another thread) preached a very good homily about the difference between mortal and venial sin. I don’t remember anything said about communion though, but I would assume most people would know the requirements for receving our Precious Lord. I assume.

When did THIS happen?
I guess I need to stay more current on the Catholic Church and her news. 😦
I was being Sarcastic. It’s just an excuse that people have told me. They like to blame Vat 2 everytime they want to sin.

Take it from someone who’s been there (and still is in that hole), it’s easier to miss Mass rather than go and be one of the few sitting there while everyone climbs over you to go to Communion. Granted, that excuse wouldn’t hold up in front of St. Peter in Heaven at the pearly gates but it’s an honest excuse that I, and several other Catholics, use for missing the Sunday Mass obligation. 😦
I use that as motivation to get me to confession. Or even to change. I just went 8 weeks without recieving communion because I couldn’t and a couple of times wouldn’t get myself to confession. There was also a sin I was holding on to that I had to let go of. It was a nightmare at communion time. First off my kids looked at me. Pretty horrible feeling , knowing that your kids know you sinned. Then there is that people climbing over thing. We sit at the end so I started going to the end of the pew and letting everyone file ahead of me and then sat at the end after they processed on. Difficult but doable. C’mon , why pile more sin on … You can do it Mrs. Abbott.

Be careful.

Be careful not to judge others and compare yourself to them. Remember the verses about the speck and the plank.

The Lord knows what is in the hearts of those at Mass and in your parish. We don’t. The most inattentive-looking person may be experiencing intimate fellowship with the Lord, while the most enthusiastic worshipper may be faking the whole show.

Pray for the Holy Spirit to convict your fellow parishioners and then don’t fret about them.

If it is within your power to get involved in some kind of educational ministry in your parish, do so. Children, youth, adult, seniors–all need catechesis, even if they’ve been Catholics for years. Even if you can’t teach or get involved personally, you can pray for those who are on the front lines of evangelization.

I’m a “work in progress”, let’s put it that way.
