(Removed because I’m not too sure whether I interpreted these “principles” in the correct sense; there may have been some errors. To readers suffering from scrupulosity: dont use these principles as I’m not sure whether they’re correct or not)

Also, does anyone know what St Alphonsus means when he said this?

“When there exists in a scrupulous person the habitual will not to offend God, it is certain that he or she acts in doubt and there is no sin…”

Is he, too, supporting the idea that scrupulous people can act against the scruples?

He is saying that the scrupulous are not likely to deliberatly try to offend God, so when they do something even though they have fear because of uncertainty, they are not sinning (you have to have knowledge and intent to sin).

I see. So if I’m unsure if an act is sinful or not – even after trying to resolve the doubts – I am allowed to commit the action? Of course, if I knew the action was sinful I wouldn’t do it

Gosh! I was raised in the Catholic school system. I’m a Catholic. Following the 12 commandments, worked for me. No bad words, don’t fight, dont hate.?Stay pure in life till marriage. In the 1950’s, the totality of sex wasn’t readily taught. When I watched the Doris Day and Rock Hudson movies, I was happy they went through the door. I wasn’t even curious what was happening! I saw one later in life, after marriage, I said to myself,”WHOA!” Innocence is so nice. I was blessed. I was the goody two shoes w 2 brothers who were spawns of hell!
My poor parents.

I am not giving spiritual advice, and i am not going to give instruction. I am not qualified. Read what the Saint, the Doctor of the Church, the founder of the Redemptorist Order said and judge for yourself. Be strong and remember God knows your heart, your mind and your intent better than you.

From how I judge it, he seems to be referring to that idea (what I replied). Though I could be wrong. Do you know where that quote originated from?

It sounds like a good idea to rely on the CCC for now; let it be your spiritual direction for awhile. You could even tell the “confessor” what the catechism says as confirmation from him. Like you said though, what he says to do is the way. Ask him questions that you have.
