KNOCK! KNOCK!

The day you’ve feared has arrived. The Police are outside of your door and have come to arrest you. Your crime – you have refused to renounce Christ and deny the supreme and divine sovereignty of the State. As the squad flows into your home, you soak in the last few precious moments of freedom before being read the charges and taken into custody. The Sergeant tells you to collect your things and get into the cruiser. You quickly gather three items and are escorted to the awaiting car.

Some two hours later, without hearing or trial, you arrive at the maximum security prison center that will be your home from now on. As you pass through the outer gate, you soak in the last full measure of sunlight from the outside world. You are quickly escorted to your cell, and as you enter you realize that you most likely will never leave this room while you are still alive (24 hour lockdown). You place the three items you have brought down and lay down to take a short rest.

What three items did you bring?

God, please don’t let this day ever come! :crossrc:

The Bible.

My Rosary beads.

A picture of my family.

(If I could have a fourth item, it would be St. Faustina’s Diary.)

Would these items be allowed, since 2 of 3 are of religious nature?

wow this is interesting, I thought of the same objects before I read your post 😉

Whatever copy of The Liturgy Of The Hours is in season
The Roman Daily Missal, including Sundays
Rosary

When that day comes, if it happens as it has for so many who have gone on before us, do not worry about the three things. They won’t be allowed. One will not need any earthly items for that journey.

Peace, Tom

On of the nice things about hypothetical situations meant to provoke thought is that you can sometimes create unrealistic circumstances. Of course, such a scenario could occur – the communists sometimes allowed their prisoners arrested on similar charges to bring religious items with them.

I will, though, place this restriction: you cannot bring an item that clearly is meant to foster escaping or harming someone – no metal files, ice picks, guns, etc.

I’m curious why you chose this item? Being stuck in a cell doesn’t afford the opportunity of attending Mass (unless you are a priest).

My Bible

My Rosary

**My Brown Scapular **

But I also, pray that this day never comes. :nope:

God bless.

Bible
Rosary
Summa Theologica 😃

If I were in prison, I might actually be able to read it all

Because the the lectionary has so much of Holy Scriptures in them already edited into daily pieces. It would also facilitate keeping to the liturgical calender. So between the Missal and the LOTH I would have a treasure of God’s Word as well as readings from the saints and fathers not to mention all the many prayers. LOTH is actually more important to me because of the daily strength and encouragement I recieve from it.
Peace, Tom
