Do Catholics and Protestants alike engage in private interpretation? Do Catholics interpret for themselves the true church via Scripture, and therefore do nothing different than protestants? And for Protestants, if I determine the CC as the true church, how is my persoanl interpretation any less valid than yours? And lastly, since both interpretations cannot simultaneously be true, where is Truth?

Catholics interpret the Bible in the light of the teaching of the Catholic Church.

Private interpretation is not encourage because it can promote false doctrines like Protestantism.

2 Peter Chapter 3 verse 15-17 warns of private interpretation.

And count the forbearance of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures. You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, beware lest you be carried away with the error of lawless men and lose your own stability.

The Church is the only authority who can interpret Scripture.

They both interpret scripture, but Catholics have certain limits placed by the teaching authority of the Church on what the Scriptures mean (and what the Scriptures are).
Do Catholics interpret for themselves the true church via Scripture,
While that may occur in some cases, Catholics have an advantage in proving the inspiration of Sacred Scripture:

What Catholics and Protestants do are not the same here. Protestants put their faith in the Bible alone, and interpret through their own lenses. Catholics put their faith in the Bible and the Church, and thus interpret the Scripture through the Church’s lens.

Furthermore, Catholics are able to look at history, apart from the Bible, and link their Church to the Apostles. No Protestant denomination can do so, because they are linked to the 16th century Reformation by their very nature. Thus, Catholics do not do what Protestants do.

Remember the CC pre-dated scripture. And the CC is responsibe for cannonizing it, protecting it, distributing it and giving us its authorative interpretation. And this she has done through out history. As Catholics we read the bible but always submit to the magisterial teaching handed down to us as related to its interpretation.
