Private Vows

Hello, all. I need someone to give me the skinny on private vows. I’ve read the cannon law, but it is still unclear to me who exactly can dispense from private vows. Let me be as straightforward as possible with my question: Is my particular parish priest the only individual who can dispense me from my private vows—no other priest?

For instance, if for whatever reason I sought dispensation from the parish priest in the next town over, would it be invalid on principle? I can talk only to my specific parish priest?

Anyone who could give me a straightforward answer about this will have done me a huge favor.
 
Ones Pastor…ones Bishop…the Pope!

And in certain cases another Pastor in his territory.

Or another Priest given the authority by the Bishop.
 
I’m sorry, but that doesn’t answer my question. First off, how can I distinguish which priests have the power of dispensation and which don’t? Secondly, what if I go to the Pastor in the next town? Or what if choose to consult a good Pastor I know of two counties over? They’re both pastors, but not mine. So are they disqualified from dispensing me?

I assume you intend to live where you are for more than 3 months. That becomes at least your quasi -domicil

So your Pastor there can dispense one.

As I recall - Other *Pastors *-since your not “without a domicile” (you intend to remain where you live 3 months) would be able to dispense one when one is in their Parish territory.

In some places the Bishop gives the authority to all his Priest to dispense from a private vow.

When you go to the Priest (who is a Pastor) ask for the dispensation - tell him where you live etc he will know about dispensations of vows…
