Washington, D.C. (18 July 2008)
– One month after American Life League’s Protest the Pill Day, pro-abortion activists are in a panic as the Department of Health and Human Services considers a plan that would not only protect pro-life medical workers from discrimination, but also recognize abortion to include the birth control pill.

In the wake of yesterday’s historic news, pro-life leaders and pro-abortion politicians are both considering the ramifications of such a federal plan.

“This move could redefine the abortion war,” said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. “For years, many in the pro-life movement have been afraid to tackle the birth control pill, but we can’t ignore it any longer – the birth control pill often means the death of a preborn child.”

Besides protecting pro-life medical workers and recognizing abortion to include abortifacient birth control, the regulation could have far-reaching effects for Title X funding, which allows Planned Parenthood to buy contraceptives at discounted prices using your tax dollars.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America set up a special page on their site, imploring supporters to oppose the new regulation. According to the PPFA Web site, “The rule would also require … Planned Parenthood, to certify that we will not refuse to hire nurses and other providers who object to abortion and even certain types of birth control.”

“We’re seeing the pro-abortionists squirm because they know,” said Brown, “that if the American people recognize the personhood of the preborn child from creation on, their big money business of selling death at discount prices will be over.”

I’m breaking my rule here of never commenting on American politics.

In the 1980’s the British Labour Party was taken over by ideologues and went into an election with a seriously socialist party program. They lost heavily and the manifesto has been described as ‘the longest suicide note in history’.

I cannot help but think that any politician who went into an election pledging to work towards banning the birth control pill would share the same wishful thinking - and fate.

Well, some people will definitely be sour over this being up to vote. It would be nice to see this go through from across the border (since I’m Canadian) and give me high hopes that this would help put a nail in the coffin of Canada’s terrible abortion history.

Though it’s been mentioned there is an interesting bill in Canada about establishing the death of a pregnant woman as a double homicide.

It would be nice to see both of these go through.

Is this the same president that some of the forum have told us he has done nothing for pro-life? 🙂

Because we know that the pill does in some cases cause abortion it should be labeled as such. As someone who is not a supporter of President Bush we should all pray that his rumored conversion to Catholicism is in fact forthcoming and that all the time he has spent with our Holy Father will shape some of Americas ideas before he leaves office.

Also to give Bush another little bit of credit, the elimination of federal money towards embryonic stem cells, and the creation of stem cell lines was a good choice.

I don’t believe anyone has said that. Careful though, people are capable of doing both good and bad.

Thank you,
Being right in fact is one of the best types of being right.

I believe that Pres. Bush has done quite a bit for pro-life causes, but it should be mentioned that this is being done during in what amounts to the 11th hour of his presidency.

I think Kaninchen may be on to something regarding elections. It will be interesting to see how many Republican candidates choose to embrace this decision - my guess is very few.

I wonder if it is the distance that so many Republican candidates are keeping between themselves and the President that allowed Bush to push through this policy change, i.e. there would be little electoral fallout.

Kannichen,

Is winning an election or being popular with the status quo really what Jesus taught us?

He stood for the Truth and was crucified for his beliefs!

Did he compromise for the “greater good” as all of our politicians do every day?

We need to stick to what we know is right, no matter what the personal cost.

Losing an election is inconsequential, as God is the Truth and eternity is the only thing that really matters.

We always get caught up in the here and now, despite the fact that we are just an insignificantl, temporary speck of dust in the overall scheme of things.

May God Bless You!

EGO SUM PANIS VITAE (Jn 6:35 & 51)

If only our palotitions had and people of power actualy had the faith they say they do, than they mite have seen what you’re talking about, and used it.

Erm, I’m Jewish so the question has no relevance to me in the way that you word it. On the other hand, obviously, the question of taking a principled stand is important but whether a policy of changing everything in order to change anything is viable is something that even non-politicians have to consider.

Oh, people are free to lose whatever elections they want.
