I know that the Mormon religion has pro-abortion doctrine in their book of General Instructions, I do believe it’s called. It’s basically the Mexico City Policy that congress came up with to allow certain exceptions for abortions. Like incest, rape and the health of the mother. Could anyone tell me exactly where in the Mormon’s book of General Instructions this is found?

“General Handbook of Instructions,” (1983), Page 77 & 78. Quoted in William S. Evans, “I have a Question,” Ensign magazine, 1984-DEC, Page 45. Online at: library.lds.org

I once wrote a paper for a philosophy class examining various religions belief systems regarding abortion. Guess what I found? Only one religion was unreservedly pro-life on abortion from conception on. Guess which religion? You got it.👍 (eagerly takes a sip of coffee)

Back when I briefly joined the Mormons in 1987/88,
my Ward Bishop told me personally that while
abortion is “a serious matter,” he said “it is NOT murder.”

I, of course, believed otherwise, even then, and that’s one of the many reasons I quickly left the LDS church.

Thank you so much for your replies!! I greatly appreciate it. My daughter joined the Mormons, but is extremely pro-life (after being born and raised Catholic, of course). She seems to be under the impression that the LDS are 100% pro-life. I’m going to have to drop this on her one of these days. I’m hoping it will get her brain thinking again. Once again, thanks for the replies! God bless and everyone have a great weekend out there!

Drop it sooner rather than later.

I’m sure there is plenty more she has been completely misled about. It does seem to be the only way they can get converts.

Therefore, I’d study up if I were you so that you can bring up a multitude of things that will turn her “testimony” inside out.

Oh yes, you’re right. She has been misled about many things. Don’t worry. I’ve studied up on Mormonism for a few years now and know quite a bit about them (their true history, that is) past and present. I just misplaced my info on where their pro-abortion doctrine is contained, hence, this topic. Thanks much all !!

Besides the fact that after 5 months of associating with the Mormons and preparing for my baptism I began feeling “uncomfortable” with some of what I was finding in the Gospel Principles Book/Class, I started doing research. The more I found, the more disturbed I became. I began looking at the church’s stance on abortion, a big deal breaker issue with me and when I discovered the “prophet’s” stance on this important issue was not 100% prolife, I quit attending meetings. About six weeks later, my husband, who had been baptized, wrote the bishop requesting his name be removed from the Salt Lake City Records.

Drop this on your daughter as soon as you can. The bishop tried to deny that the church wasn’t 100% prolife but I’d found plenty of evidence already.

I agree 100%! Hiding & misleading (and total “non sequiter” misdirection when questioned) are mainstays for LDS. My thinking is, if your church is “true”, why do you have to hide all this stuff?

You don’t have to be a scholar to figure all this out, but it’s tough to understand and reject the weird stuff and the “makes no sense” stuff when it is actively hidden. When the weird stuff is revealed, people recoil. No converts that way, so they cover it all up. To me, that kind of “con” is for the circus, not for a religion. So I pray for my Mormon friends.

I recently bought a book by a man named Isaiah Bennet who was a Catholic priest who got hooked into Mormonism. The book is available through CA, I believe, or maybe EWTN… Inside Mormonism

Bennet got married soon after becoming Mormon, and quickly rose into the shining star ranks of Mormons, giving talks to Mormon groups in which he described his conversion. After a few months, he and his wife “discovered” the Mormon loophole in their “prolife” position. That, and another issue relating to the quality of worship at Mormon church, were what they wrote about in their resignation letter.

They spent a total of 18 months as Mormons, returned to the Catholic Church, he as a layman. This all happened within the last ten years.

You’ll notice that when they “get” a Catholic priest, they just LOVE to parade them around like celebrities. It’s fairly obvious that they think they gain credibility.

Check out the aberrant former-priest Jordan Vadja. He wrote a bizarre thesis while he was an active priest which FARMS was all over and published since it supported the Mormon doctrine of exaltation and theosis.

His mini-autobiography listed on BYU’s website has him STILL a Catholic Priest although he converted to Mormonism years ago.

Jordan Vajda
**Jordan Vajda **(Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley, California) **is a Catholic priest **and a member of the Order of Preachers (the Dominicans). **He serves at the Newman Center **(the Catholic Campus Ministry) for the University of Washington in Seattle.
If they update their website to indicate that this priest is now just another member, his paper and anything he had to say wouldn’t be worth much. He’s just another Mormon towing the line. But in the meantime, he is gushed over and quoted all the time like he’s some expert as a Catholic priest.

Thanks for the links, Lehl. I only had time right now to scan them quickly, but will read them at length tomorrow.

This whole priest-becomes-Morman thing reminds me of a conversation, sort of mini-debate I had with a small group of Mormon men about nine months ago. The leader of the group told me a story about his college days. He said he knew a seminarian who got convinced of the truth of Mormonism, dropped out of seminary, and became a Mormon.

AW,

And what was your response to this claim?

My husband’s Mormon family always mentioned some friend of the family “as the Catholic priest who converted” I am convinced that mention of this alleged friend was used to try to convince me “of the truth” of Mormonism.

What you will discover is that many of these little stories are simply not true. Mormons thrive on faith-promoting rumors and they circulate like wildfire.

Mormon Urban Legend?

I think we’ve heard this “song” before!

I wasn’t in a position to challenge him on this, though I had a strong feeling that it was a manufactured memory on his part. At my age, I’m very familiar with how people can manufacture phony memories, and repeat the story so many times, they actually come to believe that it is true. I just let him tell his story, and then went on with the point of the converstation, which was centering around Matthew 16 and their misinterpretations of it.
