Imagine if an atheist came to this forum, pretended to be Catholic, and started promoting a new crusade and a return to the inquisition. You’d call “troll” and rightfully so.How is that a “trolling attempt”?

That’s what happened here.
That was not what happened. He wasn’t starting an argument and people were to caught up in the idea of pro-choice to realize that they were being imbeciles just going along with a slogan instead of using reason and understanding what was being said.In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,[1] by posting inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog), either accidentally[3][4] or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[5] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
They were misrepresenting themselves by offering a petition they did not actually believe in, as well as using misleading language designed to fool people.Definition of a troll

Interesting, where was the lie? They were being tricked? Because they didn’t care enough to be informed by what they were signing doesn’t mean they were tricked. When he was asked questions he answered them honestly. What it showed and obviously you don’t like it was that pro-choice people only care about their slogan and don’t give much thought behind it.They were misrepresenting themselves by offering a petition they did not actually believe in, as well as using misleading language designed to fool people.
So the blame doesn’t rest totally with the people who signed. They were being deliberately tricked by liars who wanted to make them look bad.
And that’s trollish. Unless lying is ok now so long as it’s done by people you agree with.
Who is giving them a pass? I said they weren’t totally to blame, not that they were innocent. They should have paid more attention to what they were signing. That having been said, there’s a huge difference between a real petition for a school, and a petition created for the sole purpose of trying to slime the pro-choice movement (a purpose you are now enabling. Presumably you are fully aware that fourteen random college students don’t represent all pro-choice people). That organization was being disingenuous and you know it. Honesty would have been “this is a fake petition that we are offering solely to embarrass you and anyone we can tar with the same brush.” Aren’t lies of omission still lies?Interesting, where was the lie? The blame lays solely on them.
As to lying, there stated purpose was to see who would sign their petition. Everything they stated about their petition was truthful. Because they might not believe in what they were asking people to sign doesn’t make them liars.
I once was asked to take a petition around for a new school. I did not believe that a new school was needed but I took it around anyway because I was told it was good for the children. According to you, I lied to the people when I asked them to sign a petition. BTW everyone who signed knew what the petition was.
I sign petitions all the time. I know exactly what they are. I never sign anything without first reading it.
It is amazing to me that you give them any kind of a pass. The fact is it didn’t matter to them what they were signing as long as it was pro-choice. If anything it exposes, the idea that label it pro-choice and no one will question it.
Well actually, what I’d do is question what they were saying and I certainly would never sign anything - from anyone - without reading it.Imagine if an atheist came to this forum, pretended to be Catholic, and started promoting a new crusade and a return to the inquisition. The tragic part of it is that this has actually been suggested. I watched a program where the person suggested that a baby shouldn’t be declared human until the parents decided if he should live. So if they discovered something wrong and they didn’t want the child they could just kill it.Are you defending stupidity? Fourth trimester indeed!!!![]()
The blame lies with people who don’t react with disgust at the thought of an abortion being okay at any time. They were misrepresenting themselves by offering a petition they did not actually believe in, as well as using misleading language designed to fool people.
