Pro Ecclesia conference cancelled

The much-troubled Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice conference scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled.
The event was to be held at Methodist Central Hall in Westminster, central London, but the group announced that the venue had cancelled the booking.
Earlier this month Cardinal Raymond Burke pulled out of his engagement to be the main speaker. He was due to give a talk on the restoration of Church discipline and evangelisation.
The speakers arranged in his place were Fr Paul Kramer, a retired priest who has written about the “cover-up” of the secrets of Fatima, and American Catholic apologist Robert Sungenis. Mr Sungenis, founder of Catholic Apologetics International, had been criticised for his views on Jewish people.

Has Pro Ecclesia lost its way? I realize the founder is in her 80s and that she is trying to turn the reins of the organization over to younger people But Cardinal Burke quite rightly canceled his speaking appearance when he learned about the printed comments of the organization.

But as a replacement for Cardinal Burke, the organization picks two men with very odd beliefs. One alleges that the Vatican is part of a vast conspiracy to cover up the Fatima prophecies. The other has views which are widely regarded as anti-Semitic (and also believes the Earth is the center of the solar system and that the sun orbits the Earth.)

Those are astonishing choices for an organization which is (or at least was at one time) orthodox. In the past, Pro Ecclesia highlighted important issues and brought pressure to bear. But as Daphne McLeod turns her able leadership over to a younger generation the organization seems to be veering off into the fringes.

Isn’t Robert Sungenis also a sedavacantist?

Sungenis is a good Catholic apologist who defend the Church from the inside. He anounces the liberals and what they are doing against the Church. He deserves our respect because he is faifthfull to the Church.

Why is it that people like to come against those who love and defend the Church? why is that?

No, Pro Ecclesia has not lost its way, Dale. The members of the younger generation are faithful Catholics who continue to uphold the aims of Pro Ecclesia. proecclesia.com/page_our%20aims.htm

There was no request made of the Cardinal to criticise the Bishops and one cannot believe why he thought it to be the case. He is Apostolic Signatura! That the Cardinal took exception to the statement on Pro Ecclesia’s literature raises plenty of queries especially when statements are made in respect of heeded advise from “devout and faithful Catholics” (Cardinal’s letter to PEEP 30th May 2011). Further, a spokesman from Westminster Cathedral confirmed to authorities that *“Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice were not the kind of people who should speak in their halls”. *A rather shocking statement which can only be viewed as an insult, as it seems to imply that traditional Catholics who wish for faithful adherence to Catholic teachings are now excluded from the *“devout and faithful”. *

That the literature for the conference stated: ”…*our bishops are obdurate in their refusal to allow our glorious Catholic faith to be taught in the schools and that the downward trend is set to resume with the next generation of immigrants.”, *is stating the truth on the basis of Pro Ecclesia’s work over the past 40 years which highlights its relationship with the CES over the lack of sound catechetical materials and religious education in our Catholics schools (the background of which cannot be discussed at great length in this thread). The late Cardinal Winning also spoke of a catechetical desert in our schools which continues to this day. Clearly, Cardinal Winning shared Pro Ecclesia’s view. One finds it rather odd that there would be objections to Sugenis now when, as far as we know, he is currently in Maryvale Institute of Theology and, I believe, was due to speak on Dutch Catechism. Fr Kramer’s lecture on Fatima is also not simply confined to the “secretist” theory. And, over the two chosen as last-minute replacements for the conference hosted by traditional Catholics, the so-called “devout and faithful” raise no objection to James Alison using Catholic premises to wrap up London Gay Pride?

That’s false, he’s not a sedevacantist, at least he wasn’t.

But some people think he’ll end up as a sedevacantist if he doesn’t change direction soon. I think they have a point.

I agree with wisdomseeker that he has done some good apologetics work. But there are some real problems that have cropped up, too. Search his name and “Jews” you’ll find a lot of information.
