Pro-gay "marriage" ex-Mormon crowd is at it again

I sometimes think that most ex-Mormons must be gay or gay sympathizers. The pro-same sex marriage crowd is at it again over at exmormon.org. It amazes me how many Mormons are so eager to toss religion and morality aside when they become ex-Mormon. I suppose the same is true of ex-Catholics. I am always happy to support my Mormon friends in opposing gay marriage. Unfortunately, there are way too many Catholics willing to accept both abortion and same sex marriage even without leaving the Catholic Church. They think they know more than the Pope.

My experience informs me that most ex-Mormons at www.exmormon.org are now atheist and/or non-religious, which in turn likely explains their tendency to adopt gay-friendly beliefs. It is unreasonable to assume from this that “most ex-Mormons must be gay or gay sympathizers”.

It amazes me how many Mormons are so eager to toss religion and morality aside when they become ex-Mormon. I suppose the same is true of ex-Catholics. I am always happy to support my Mormon friends in opposing gay marriage. Unfortunately, there are way too many Catholics willing to accept both abortion and same sex marriage even without leaving the Catholic Church. They think they know more than the Pope.

You seem to be completely ignorant of ex-Mormons, ex-Catholics, essentially ex-anything leaving their religious affiliation of birth for another religion! I’ll be honest with you: As an ex-Mormon Catholic convert, I’m having a hard time not being insulted by this post especially with how close to home this strikes for me. There’s an ugly habit within many Mormon communities to paint “apostates” as these God-hating, immoral reprobates who really knew the truthfulness of the LDS Church but left despite this just to “justify some sin or another”. I’m still dealing with vicious rumors started about me in my old ward thanks to illogical assumptions such as the one you’ve adopted.

I was brought up and raised in the LDS faith. Served a mission, married in the Temple I was in the Elders Quorum presidency… I converted to the Catholic Faith after much study, prayer and soul searching. It wasn’t easy, and most of my friends and family assume the reason why I left the church(LDS) was due to my desire to justify a sin, or because I was some apostate.
Anyway I don’t think it is about ex-mormons as it is about people turning their hearts and minds away from strong morals and values because it is politically correct to do so. Mormons and Catholics fight for the same morals and family values…
I like the post just before mine, I’m trying not to be offended at what you said, I won’t be I don’t think you meant it in a malicious manner.

Hey, I converted to Catholicism as well. But fewer Mormons seem to convert than to go atheist.

Even Walter Martin, noted Mormon opponent who tried to get Mormons to leave Mormonism for Christianity noted with sadness that most ex-Mormons did not become Christian.

Mormons teach that if the Mormon church is not true, then there is no God. Many Mormons reject Mormon teachings but still carry this belief out of the church with them. They are so disillusioned and feel so betrayed once they realize that the LDS church is a sham, that they reject all religion. I did that, but it only lasted 14 years. With my parents’ prayers and the grace of God, I was finally called back to the faith of my fathers - the Catholic Church. I think that, for the vast majority of ex-Mormons, that atheist phase is only temporary.

That’s SOP in Mormonism. THey demonize anyone who leaves and spread viscious rumors about them. When my wife and I left the LDS church, the members (especially the bishop’s wife) spread horrible gossip about us. They said that:

1. I was an alcoholic/drug addict
2. my wife was having an affair
3. I had been arrested for tax evasion
4. my wife had been confined to a mental institution
5. I was having an affair
6. CPS had taken our children from us

…and on and on

None of these things were true of course, but the “saints” just could not except that one of the leading families of the ward was leaving the church for reasons of conscience and reason. They had to invent a reason why we would leave that was faith-promoting. And they invented several.

Is this just a unilateral rant? How do you expect people to respond to this?
