Pro-life candidates are mean people?

Some liberals hold those values as well, and some conservatives are total nut jobs (not referencing anyone in particular).

You can’t lump all people who label themselves “conservative” as really sharing the same values. I know conservatives who’ve had multiple abortions. I’m left-leaning, and I don’t believe in abortion under any circumstances. Mould broken.
By definition, conservatives are not likely to have abortions. Libertarians will though. Not all right leaning people are conservative. There are right leaning libertarians (and left leaning libertarians too).

A conservative is someone who is BOTH fiscally & socially conservative. Pro Choice Republicans are not conservatives. They are either moderates or libertarians.

For example: Tomi Lahren claims that she’s conservative, but she’s really a libertarian. She’s very fiscally conservative, but she’s socially liberal - which is the text book definition of libertarian.

Libertarians vote with which ever party represents the issues they care about most: social or fiscal. Most of Hollywood is actually libertarian, not liberal. You will notice that the Hollywood people who support the Democrats rarely talk about the need for more taxes. That’s because most of them (not all of them) are actually libertarians. Hollywood has been libertarian for it’s entire existence and so has California as a State.

So you are not going to have a true conservatives having multiple abortions (unless they were once not conservative). And yes, some people (like Tomi Lahren & Milo Yiannopoulos) who call themselves conservative really are not - they are libertarian.

BTW - I never said all left leaning people are pro-abortion. I know many pro-life Democrats attending Catholic parishes all over. Plus, there are moderates in the Democratic Party too.

God Bless

The poor women are so scared. They think they can’t live without the option of killing their unwanted, inconvenient children. And they want me to give them the OK. They want me to say Yes, it’s ok and it’s NOT murder… but it is and I cannot say it. I would be sending them to hell by telling them an UNTRUTH… The state cannot tell you something is not a sin if God says it’s a sin. Thou shall not kill. Even if you think or the doctors think your child may be malformed… I know that sounds harsh. The problem is I think, we don’t trust God enough. Dale Evans, Roy Rogers wife had a child malformed. Sure it was humiliating for a STAR to suffer through this. But what did she say? It was a BLESSING, the child was a BLESSING from God… Take God out of the equation and we get pure EVIL… like maybe that guy Gosnell…?
Roy Rogers and Dal Evans child was not malformed. She was a very pretty, perfectly-formed little girl with Down’s Syndrome. She looked like America’s Sweetheart: blonde hair, blue eyes, angelic, sweet smile, etc. Her parents didn’t think she humiliated them at all. They wrote a book with photos, about the blessing she was in their lives and how much joy she brought them in her short life. I’ve read the book several times. My mother, who liked Roy rogers, had a copy.

Please don’t call people “malformed,” “disordered,” etc. When people talk like that it scares pregnant women into having abortions. They set up “what if” scenarios. Please remember that all people are created in the image and likeness of G-d, and we are bound to see that g-dliness in them.

And now we get to the real purpose of this thread.

See, right and wrong and truth are constants. It doesn’t matter how “nicety-nice” the person proclaiming it is.

Even if every person against abortion — every last one! — was mean rotten nasty to the core, it would not justify one single, solitary abortion.

Not one.

And now we get to the real purpose of this thread.
No, the purpose of the thread was my wondering why there are pro-life politicians who exhibit what is otherwise politically, socially, and morally unacceptable behavior when I expect they would be political, social, and moral role models.

I’m not a single issue voter and if all that motivates a voter is pro-life then there are some things to wrap your head around.
  1. You are never going to get rid of abortions, legal or not.
  2. I’ve yet to see a comprehensive plan regarding limiting abortion.
  3. If you single issue vote, you give license to those in power to do as they feel on other issues that might not be in your interest.
  4. There are many other issues out there that save lives, provide dignity, equality, and a more fair society.
  5. Personally I feel like the institutional foundations of our country are being compromised. I believe it will survive, but I fear continued cynical power tactics favoring the most powerful entities in the country are at work while we are left fighting meaningless red meat arguments. Just yesterday the President said he could strip citizenships of children born here to illegal immigrants. That alone should give someone pause, this is what authoritarian regimes do, never mind that it is completely unconstitutional. Now we’re either left cheering for something that can’t happen or explaining why that is impossible. This is the kind of red meat that is wasting our time and ceding our power as citizens to the people who work for US.

Yes. It is. It’s the killing of a human baby. Pre birth/post birth it’s the same result.
It’s not the same mechanism, and they don’t carry the same implications with regards to bodily autonomy.

I don’t think considering it makes you a terrible person in a moment of extreme panic and distress of an unwanted pregnancy.
But asking a doctor about it should land you in prison for 10 years where your child will be taken away from you?

Also, what do you intend to do with women who have already had abortions? Would you also have them herded into prison for 10 years?

People should know that it’s fruitless to ask a doctor because it’s illegal to perform them.
No, the doctors will just do them under the table, like they did pre-Roe.
Women who have already had them can’t be prosecuted for actions before they were made illegal. Grandfathered in, so to speak.
You’d be okay with grandfathering people you consider murderers?

Keeping abortion legal makes it regulateable. As you acknowledged it isn’t going away and it’s impossible to stop something with laws that not everyone agrees on. This was true with alcohol and remains true with prostitution.

Deliberately terminating a pregnancy is murder.
How would you determine if it was deliberately intended? If we put your plan into action, you’re going to see a rise in “miscarriages.” Are you going to investigate each and every one of those cases?

But you catch and prosecute the ones you can
You’re not going to be able to prosecute anyone, though. Doctors will find covers, women will claim they miscarried, and you’re not going to be able to prove otherwise without violating a ton of privacy laws.
