PRO-LIFE Catholic made racist remarks about too many Hispanic babies

It didn’t make sense!

The conversation started out well enough as your typical pro-life discussion so when that happened I was shocked! I think had it not been so out of the ordinary I might have had the sense to respond right away. For me it was akin to being in a car crash and you just sit there not really able to comprehend what just happened. And since I thought that my family and the group hostess were truly friendly I guess my guard was totally down. I figured her friends were accepting. My mistake. I kind of felt like I did in grade school when I’d make a friend and things would be great until the cool kids showed up and made them feel ashamed. Peer pressure still haunts people no matter how old we become.

As for as strange bedfellows, I once met a mexican who used to be a member of the KKK! His job was to keep mexicans from “race mixing”, so stranger things have happened.

Blessings Mary.

The USA is in a serious crisis not only because of the party of death but also because many Republicans use the immigration issues to hate immigrants, including Christians and Catholics. This of course is offensive to God because we are all His children. The US has turned away from God and all we can do is pray and speak the truth.

And I will just once again put it out there than the main organization behind this nonsense, though they certainly would not want you to know it (because most conservatives are anti-abortion, and rightly so) shares personnel at its highest level with a slew of pro-abort organizations. One board member, IIRC, is even in the business of trying to provide abortion devices and drugs in countries where abortion is illegal. The next time the FAIR guys ever try to solicit donations from me, I’ll simply state that I don’t support organizations in league with Planned Parenthood, thanks.

But that a pro-lifer would actually buy the cow manure these people are selling astounds me.

I think you overstate the issue. There is a difference between “hating” immigrants and not wanting unrestricted illegal immigration. When people like you claim that Republicans hate immigrants you are speaking a falsehood. Please stop. I’m a Republican and I don’t hate immigrants, I don’t hate people of other ethnic groups. Honestly I don’t know anyone who has a racial bigotry which makes this story seem so shocking. You’d think we’d be beyond this kind of thought and talk, particularly as Christians.

That being said, I live in an area that has a very large Hispanic population. Many of them came to work in the farms and orchards and nurseries…and they never went back. The majority although many are not here legally are hardworking, loving, families. Unfortunately when you lose control of who gets across the borders, a lot of bad guys come too. We have a terrible problem with Meth and it comes from Mexico. That I don’t want drug pushers in my neighborhood does not mean I hate immigrants! Please don’t conflate one issue with the other.

I do agree this and other issues result from turning away from God and the teachings of the Church, particularly regarding the dignity of every human being and the protection of every human life. Both parties should be pro life, pro family, pro immigrant (legal) and pro economic growth and freedom. All of these objectives will create a more stable and joyful society.

I didn’t say all Republicans hate immigrants, but the fact is many do. I am from South Carolina so I stand by my opinion that Republicans have a serious problem.

Nonetheless I still voted for Romney as the Republican platform is far better.

The fact is America has had a problem with racism since it’s inception, thanks mostly to Protestants, and we are reaping what we have sowed.

We need to get back to Bible basics and realize we are hypocritical for criticizing poor immigrants so much, especially since most are Catholic. I am not for amnesty btw.

I think its wonderful that we have a place to discuss these issues and I knew that I would get different insights about the topic of my thread and I thank all of you for your (name removed by moderator)ut. Just please keep it civil. Everyone has a right to speak their mind and yes this a very emotional subject for all of us however lets put charity at the heart of our sharing and remember that we are family and love one another with the love of the lord. And please read every comment thoroughly so that we brothers and sisters are not misunderstood. God bless you all.

Be careful about using the “hate” word when it comes to describing Republicans. I am a pro-immigration (legal) Republican because it is the only party that is pro-life. As a Catholic this life or death issue is even more important to me than immigration. I don’t know how any faithful Catholic can vote for a pro-abortion Democrat.

I feel like they don’t want to shake hands with me, therefore they are racist, is a racist reactionary response. Did they spit at you and use racist remarks during mass? A lot of Catholics just go to mass to worship, not to socialize. A lot also don’t like the novel idea of shaking hands. If everywhere you go the world is full of racists, you have a problem, not the world.

Hispanics don’t really use birth control less anymore, but otherwise her statement would be logical. They do still have a somewhat higher fertility rate, but it isn’t just terribly remarkable. Isn’t it about 2.5-2.7? The white rate recently fell from 2.1 to 1.8. I’d say it holds true that white people are basically contracepting themselves out of existence. It doesn’t seem terribly racist to me to bemoan your race eliminating itself from the population. Should white people be in favor of their race eliminating itself? Ambivalent?

Also, it is hardly possible for someone to be very pro-life and not know that planned parenthood began in the black neighborhoods during a much more eugenic time than now with the goal of aborting black babies. Furthermore, it is nearly impossible to not recognize that the vast majority of babies killed by abortion are black and Hispanic. If they were racist, shouldn’t they be pro-abortion?

I just think you are taking one rather insensitive remark way too far.

I very well may have read too much into a “casual” remark. I maybe should not care at all if the “symbolic” sign of peace is not offered to me. And its true that one ethnicity may not be as fertile as another, I can’t argue with anything said but I can say that no matter what my personal views are, when I interact with another human being I try to treat them better than they treat me because we all have feelings and we all should try as best we can to put ourselves in the others person’s position before making a blanket statement about one particular group of people. No matter how I’ve felt about a particular group of people, I’ve always treated everyone with respect because the worst thing a human being can do to another human being who has done nothing to incur hatred is to make them feel that they deserve your hatred simply because they exist.
Blessings, Mary

With all due respect what is the correct word to describe if people do not want Hispanic immigrants in the US nor want them to increase in popualation nor much less speak their language to the point that they have do not want to have anything to do with them?

Furthermore, just because the Democratic Party is evil does that somehow mean the Republican Party is holy, good grief?

The fact is we Americans have no right to turn away immigrants, after all our ancestors were immigrants. Besides, most of the immigrants are from Central America where our drug habit has ruined their countries and their lives. Furthermore, they work in menial labor jobs that few want.

Finally, it is also ridiculous that we Americans say that immigrants must all speak English or go home when the fact is when we came to American nobody spoke English.

I am American and love my country but I love my Catholic faith more. Paz.

Speak English or go home is a pretty reasonable response to the idea that we should adopt new practices to accomodate your inability to speak the language of the land. Isn’t it? I’m not going to go to Thailand and get all mad that everything isn’t in English. If people don’t want to learn English, that’s fine, just don’t ask for accomodations, and don’t be surprised if you find being successful to be very difficult.

I’ve been keeping up with the goings on of the Pro-Life movement for at least the past 10 years, and the Pro-Life movement is always lamenting how the majority of abortions are of black and other minority babies and baby girls. So, the example you are giving is not representative of the Pro-Life movement.

Of course we can turn away those who want to enter illegally. Countries have soveignty and protect their borders. We’re certainly good friends with Canada but you can’t just blast through the border without documentation. Mexico is FAR more restrictive than we are. It’s not racist to protect our borders. If we don’t, we really don’t have a soverign country.

You can’t blame America for the drug cartels, the violence and evil occurring in South America. The country is responsible for making and enforcing its laws. If it cannot do so, then even more reason for us to restrict illegal access to our country.

America was founded by English speakers. English has been our unofficial official language since the days prior to the Constitution. If people want to stay here they need to learn English. If they don’t, they relegate themselves to marginalization, poor job prospects and minimal opportunities for themselves and their children. It’s in an immigrant’s best interest to assimilate. Our phrase E Plurbis Unum is from many ONE, not from many, many. Immigrants in the past understood this. Those who refuse to become Americans can hardly expect us to continue to support them and cater to their demands for isolation.

So “discriminating” against those who break the law is not racist since the law is applied to everyone in the same way. If a white Irishwman entered illegally she would be subject to the same penalties as a Hispanic man. Where’s the discrimination in equal application of our law?

This is of course by our secular standard. As Catholics we are to show love and care for strangers but again, there is a difference between providing Christian love and aiding the breaking of our laws.

Please don’t be confused, enacting policies is not hate in of itself. I am talking about people attitudes and comments regarding said.

Regarding the drug problem, we are the cause of it and worse many people just ignore it.

As far as America being founded by English speakers, please remember the American Indians were there first.

Finally, the fact that there are non racist good pro life Republicans does nothing to take away from the fact that there are many Republicans that are racist. For that matter there are many Democrats that are racist. We as a COUNTRY have a problem.

What is the point of these claims? Yes there are racist people in America. People who express racist attitudes should be called out and not allowed to promote violence against those of other races. I suspect we all agree on that. In reality this country is quite tolerant of races, ethnic groups and up until recently religious practice. I am a lot more concerned about the Democrat war on babies and the Obama administration 's war on Christianity (particularly against Catholicism) than about a few individuals here and there who are ignorant bigots. The former can destroy lives and our country. The latter are basically an irritation.

I’m from an area that is extremely hostile towards people of Latino descent. And as a member of the privileged class, you don’t get to decide for someone else how severely the discrimination that they have experienced in their lives has affected them. That’s presumptuous and uncharitable.

Interesting pot kettle issue. You have NO idea what “class” I am from, privileged or otherwise. Further your accusation of presumption is uncharitable as well. As to your strawman, that I decided how severely someone else was discriminated against, well I didn’t do that either.

And you were saying 🤷

You say that bigots are a mere annoyance. You really don’t get to decide what impact bigotry and discrimination have in the lives of others.
