Pro-Life Catholics, how do you respond to this?

I think there are quite a large number of Catholics on CAF and elsewhere who don’t realize this.

That has been dis proven. It is propaganda.
Actually, no. Border agents have denied it, but multiple refugees have claimed it. Alexandria said that the sink/toilet combination was the one they saw, but that the sink faucet wasn’t working (another Congresswoman tested it) and that’s why the guards told the women to drink from the toilet bowl. If you think that’s OK, there’s no point in discussing further.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

✔️@AOC

This was in fact the type of toilet we saw in the cell.

Except there was just one, and the sink portion was not functioning - @AyannaPressley smartly tried to open the faucet, and nothing came out.

So the women were told they could drink out of the bowl. https://twitter.com/dmartosko/status/1145794081660055553 …

There are probably millions of people in the US who drink from the toilet every day. Except it’s a toilet/sink combo. Something like this:

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
Yeah, that’s what they saw. But the sink faucet wasn’t working. Therefore they were told to drink from the bowl. That’s not what I would tell my daughters or grandmother.

One should always choose the lesser of two evils.
A Christian ought never choose evil. Christ promised us that there will never be a situation where our choice is “this evil or that evil”, we can always make a choice that does not do evil.

See my post directly above my reply to you. AOC’s tweet. But of course she’s not alone in reporting what she heard–Castro, for example. If you heard “other things” perhaps you should go directly to the source…Castro, AOC, and the other Congressmen and women who were actually there. And, needless to say, I wouldn’t expect the guys running the place to say “Yes, we told them to drink out of the toilets.” However, if you look at other stories, MANY of the guards were posting all sorts of insulting things about both the detainees and the Congressional visitors.

Have a look at an article about the 10-15 Facebook group (9,500 members) for border patrol guards Inside the Secret Border Patrol Facebook Group Where Agents Joke About Migrant Deaths and Post Sexist Memes — ProPublica where they have all sorts of appalling stuff posted. The article gives some screen shots.

Or you could turn to racist texts from border guards…'Tonks' and 'Guats': The Shocking Texts of a Border Patrol Agent - Rolling Stone

Or you could have a look at how agents are parading homosexual captives in front of their fellow captives holding a paper saying “I like men” in Spanish. https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/04/us/honduran-migrant-shamed-border-patrol/index.html

Or you could just say “This is outrageous. It’s got to stop–NOW.” And of course if you think all this criticism is unwarranted, there is a way to prove that it’s all fake news–have the camps open to the press or international inspectors.

What a cynical way to look at our suffering brothers and sisters 😦
Perhaps.

But as a military kid, I know that freedom isn’t free. I was raised to know my place, have a heavy helping of personal responsibility, and follow the rules from lawful authority. If I can’t subordinate myself to the rules of X, then I avoid X rather than disrespecting it. If a system is broken— and I agree, the system has been broken for decades! --the solution isn’t to ignore the rules; the solution is to lawfully fix it.

As a mom, I don’t favor walking your kids thousands of miles through hostile terrain. I also don’t care for 30% of children who cross the border not being genetically related to their accompanying adult. (Surely they’re not all stepkids…) I’m aware that there are approximately 300,000 people who have been human trafficked in Texas alone, including about 78,000 kids…

As an adult, I don’t think much of citizens who allow their countries to be overrun by cartels and corruption without making an effort to clean their own house. And I’m seeing the effects of opioids destroying the people in my own town.

As a lover of trivia, I know that having a net worth of about $4k puts me in the global top 50% (if ranking by net worth), and making about $30k/year puts you in the global top 1% (if ranking by income).

As a Catholic, I know that prosperity is not linked to God’s blessing. The most perfect people who ever existed were in poverty. So material wealth isn’t a reward we ought to expect in this life-- instead, we get blessed with challenges. So that’s not to say that we shouldn’t strive for “a solid income” or “food on the table” or “a roof over our head”— and indeed, we continually work hard and sacrifice to attain those things for ourselves and our children— but it tells me that eternal prosperity is more important. And that can be achieved anywhere, regardless of geography— we all grow where we’re planted, and we do our best in the circumstances we’ve been given. Some of us are given one city, and others are given ten cities, and we all know that those who do well with what they have, are given more— and those who can’t take care of what they have, will lose what little they’ve got. (Random trivia fact: 60% of NBA players go bankrupt within 5 years of leaving basketball; almost 80% of NFL players are either bankrupt or under “financial stress” within 2 years of retirement. Wasn’t there just a story yesterday about Adrian Peterson being broke-- and he had earned over $100 million as a Viking?)

But that’s just me. Other people perceive the world through their own filters, and that’s cool, too… because God doesn’t make cookie cutter people in cookie cutter circumstances, and it’s nice to talk to people. 🙂

I would not despair about it. We are certain that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez could get with Pelousi and find a Russian dossier to prove it. It’s out there if you look hard enough.

Seriously?

This entire refugee thing is about the," new world order." If you support the politicians to let these illegals into this country you are supporting George Soros - self proclaimed deity. We will not have any part of this. Unfortunately the illegals are pawns. They are being deceived to serve George Soros and his cronies.

This entire mess parallels the abortion curse. First you say the woman has a choice to murder her unborn child then you REDEFIINE REALITY to fit your convenience by saying it is not a child. If you did not have sex IN THE FIRST PLACE then you wouldn’t have to murder the child.

Now you say the illegals being held at the border are in concentration camps and they have bad conditions and being mistreated. If they didn’t cross the border illegally IN THE FIRST PLACE it would not be our concern except for helping with the mess they are immigrating from. You REDEFINE REALITY by calling them immigrants when actually they are illegal aliens. As far as I’m concerned you are being deceived for political purposes to establish a new world order. Your allegiance is for George Soros and cronies. We should not be having this conversation. The law is being broken and you people are skipping some steps to force a lefty political agenda illegally.

Now you say the illegals being held at the border are in concentration camps and they have bad conditions and being mistreated.
Yes, I think that’s a pretty accurate description of what I’m saying and what is actually happening. Again, if you think that’s all nonsense, open the camps to the press and international inspectors.

It does not matter. They shouldn’t be there in the first place. This conversation should not be taking place.

As a mom who also has sat and talked to scores of people who made this journey, these are escapes. When the situation is so very dangerous that a mom is willing to take on such a dangerous journey, it is hard for us in our comfortable air conditioned armchairs to conceive of the horrors these families flee.
. I also don’t care for 30% of children who cross the border not being genetically related to their accompanying adult.
As DNA testing is expensive, and the results are confidential, where does this statistic come from?

We are putting a band-aid on the problem. Would you use a band-aid to cure cancer if your child had cancer. We need to strike at the root of the problem. The place of origin where the battle rages on.

We need to strike at the root of the problem. The place of origin where the battle rages on.
We agree on that one. I think almost everyone does–if we eliminate the reasons for emigrating (violence, no jobs, poverty, etc.) then you eliminate the problem. Trump of course has eliminated the program that was trying to do this.

Last I heard Venezuela is being claimed by the Russians. Putin is involved with Venezuela and this escalates the risk for the entire world.

This does not cite a source so one can go review the study, if you find the source I would like to read it.
Best I can do is references in conservative media (such as the Washington Examiner) quoting an official involved in the program who claimed to be anonymous who spoke with the Examiner:

article

“There’s been some concern about, ‘Are they stepfathers or adopted fathers?’” the official said. “Those were not the case. In these cases, they are misrepresented as family members.”

In some incidents where Immigration and Customs Enforcement told the adults they would have to take a cheek swab to verify a relationship with a minor, several admitted the child was not related and did not take the DNA test, which was designed by a U.S. company.
