The Vatican – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is set to visit Pope
Benedict XVI this week and will likely receive communion during
her visit to the Vatican. Some pro-life Catholics don’t want that
to happen and have started a petition asking that Catholic Church
leaders prevent the pro-abortion lawmaker from receiving the
sacrament.

Won’t happen. Right now the Vatican is scrambling to dig out of the hole it got in with Bishop Williamson. Offending a powerful political leader in these times would be a catastrophic mistake.

How would that be a mistake? To stick to our morals and teachings a mistake? To allow someone not in communion with the Church to receive our Lord’s body and blood just for some positive PR would be the mistake. Regardless of what happened in the past, it doesn’t mean that we should compromise our principles.

I would hope that the only way that she receives Communion is following a good confession and that is to remain between her and her confessor.

I just don’t get it. It seems to me that Pelosi is doing this as a photo-op to get back into the graces of good Catholics. I read in the Catholic News Agency that Benedict is meeting her only as the head of state would another national leader (and she is third in line to the presidency).

Many bishops and even the Vatican have urged priests to deny communion to those polititicians that are pro-abortion. Is it possible the Holy Father will try to evangelize her? I hopd so.

I wrote an article about it in examiner.com if you want to read more.
Pray for our Church and pray for our country! Dear Jesus, protect us all!

What has done my belief in Pope Benedict great good is the fact he “almost” ignored her. Fifteen minutes isn’t a long time for Papa to spend with an “important” statesperson. In my opinion, he gave her as little time as possible without being downright rude.👍

I totally agree with you. Pelosi should be denied communion so long as she is unrepentant of her pro-abortion views. And considering that I don’t see her views changing any time soon, it’s probably best that she be denied communion both for her own sake and for the sake of Christ.

I agree, the Church must teach her a lesson she will never forget.

Did Jesus come to show mercy or not.
To forgive or not.
Thank God I will be judged by him not you.

Forgive yes, but there is such a thing as penance. Carrot and Stick.

Every human is searching for Christ how can you block Christ from this person?
In matters like these surely you can see a spritual side to this.
Surely its posible for the Lord to bring about a change of heart in this person.
Everything hapens for a reason how are we to know the reason for this meeting until we see its fruits.

There are two sides to this, you know. Yes, on the one hand we should show mercy toward her. But she has been unrepentant, at least publicly. What would Jesus have done if the adulterer was unrepentant? “Then go and sin no more”.

On the other hand, if we did allow her to recieve the Body and Blood of Christ, then we would affirm her “eating and drinking condemnation on herself”. Where’s the mercy in allowing her to do that?

If and when she repents, her confessor will know and should allow her communion. If she publicly denies church teaching, it is only proper to publicly repent of it as well. Not doing so would cause more scandal.

God Bless,
Snert

This meeting has not took place yet.If she is unrepentent she should be refuesd.
But at least give the Holy Spirit a chance to work.

Um, yes, the meeting already took place when Pelosi was in Italy in February.

Sorry, the Church is a higher authority than any powerful political leader. Why should Pope Benedict worry about offending a “secular” leader in a matter of faith and morals?

Gee Guys,
Do any of you think that the Pelosi’s or Bidens or Sebeliiuses give a sorry rats behind about their souls. They are in it for the votes and nothing else.

Apparently you are right on target. Votes = $$$

Referring to the title of this thread. “Pro-life Catholics” is redundant.
