Wow, Jeff, the folks on that discussion board behaved in a pretty ignorant manner. Is that discussion board not worried about libel? One comment was certainly libellous.

Wanted to wish you luck with your discussion. I hope it is great.
I also hope that it never hits close to home for them, having to deal with it firsthand might change their mind but it will hurt them in ways they don’t even want to know.

I do hope that no one in that class has already had an abortion, and is mourning the lose of that child. They are the ones that are going to have the hardest time with this.

P.S. How can you stand going to Berkely??? You couldn’t pay me enough to go to a place like that. It’s like Soddam and Gommorah!!

Is there any way you could go to a better college?

It’s too late for your class, but the phiolosophical approach of Fr. Robert Spitzer in Healing the Culture can tie them up for weeks.

Thank you for your concern. I even asked that myself. UC Berkeley offers a glimpse of how society has become, demoralized and lax in sin. A very good friend and mentor of mine, who is dying of cancer, was surprised of my decision to go to Berkeley. But she knew that I am here for a reason, to show the light of the True Christ in this part of the world.

And besides, it’s a very good Engineering school, which I am pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. But still, I am not quite sure what God wants me to be, either a Priest or and Engineer, or something else.

BTW, the discussion went well; I had the image of being attacked so ferociously for my beliefs, but there were none that occured. Fortunately, we analyzed the readings we were assigned, one by Weissmann titled something “Nobska Lighthouse” and one by Selzer titled “Abortion”.

I did not have to defend the position of pro-life, because, I guess, they were scared of me (since they knew previously of my Catholic Faith and adherance to my Church’s commandments and Gospel). They knew what I stood for, and they were quite respectful.

However, I listened to a classmate of mine who had emotions rise up from the readings because of an abortion he knew about and how it affected him dearly.

I realize that there are things that I have not experienced, like knowledge of an abortion; and I don’t want those kinds of memories because of the devastating effects.

Thank you again,

I’m glad the class went well. It sounds like God really is putting you where he wants you, though sometimes I think his ways are too complicated for me. I hope you do well at whatever career you go into…

Was your classmate that got emotional upset because of the abortion or because of someone dying from having one? Cause a lot of the people I’ve “talked” to on the pro-life forums who are pro-abortion say that they are for it because someone they knew died of an illegal abortion. But I always remind them people still die from legal ones.

A good book on that topic is Lime 5
By the head of Life Dynamics (his name escapes me right now  )

Gives disturbing detail of the terrible physical/emotional/spiritual suffering women go through, and yes - many deaths also.

I’m a second year at UC Berkeley and I am attending a class on Science, Technology, and Culture. In a week, we will be discussing Abortion. I know that a lot of my fellow classmates are Pro-Death and I will be put down for my comments about the protection of all life, from conception to death. Right now, I am being put down because I am not supposed to impose my beliefs on other people and that I have no right to judge people.

How can discuss to them that abortion is wrong, probably in a non-Catholic perspective, but in a scientific or non-religious way, so that my non-Catholic classmates can understand?

I will be severely attacked if I do say that the Church of God condemns abortion, because they don’t give a **** about our great Catholic Church.

Someone told me that everything is gray and not black and white, nothing is absolute, and that there are grave times when we do have to use abortion for the betterment of family and society. Although I do understand his viewpoint, I always say that it is still wrong. And he goes on saying that we humans are imperfect and try in our best judgement to do our best. Therefore, abortion may be used for grave matters, like rape or incest, and other similar situations. I said that there are adoption agencies and people willing to take your child if you deem it to full term. But he said that the agencies are overwhelmed, and this argument goes on forever and ever.

Please help, I need prayer during this time, and I need your help.

Please respond. Please email me at joel.estrada (@) gmail (.) com
I would use the argument WHEN DOES LIFE BEGIN. We all know it begins at conception. My favorite websites are American Life League, Priests For Life and Pro-Life Action League. There is a great brochure named WHAT THEY NEVER TOLD YOU ABOUT THE FACTS OF LIFE. I can no longer find it on the internet but it was located at www.hdrc.org. You can buy copies of the brochure at

5415 Sugarloaf Parkway, Suite 2201
Lawrenceville, GA 30043
770-513-0060 Fax 770-513-0057 or

call Pro-Life Action League at link below and they will probably send you complementary copies of the brochure.

With the beginning of life argument, you can’t lose. Any other point at when life begins other than conception can easily be ripped to pieces. Remember ALL LIFE is IMPORTANT. No Life is more important than Another. When a *value *is placed on certain subcategories of life you end up having slavery, abortion or the Nazi’s slaughtering Jews.

Ask those who call themselves Pro-Choice if they are pro-choice on men raping women whenever they want to do it? When they state “no” then state I thought you were all pro-choice.

Last, when someone makes the statement to you there are no absolutes in the world, respond back by telling them then by definition, the statement they just made cannot be absolute either. Get it. Beat them at their own pathetic game.

If you run into trouble come back on this thread and we all can help you out. Also, EWTN’s website has a great question and answer forum with Pro-Life Judy Brown who will email you within 24 hours.
