IT’s just frustrating when pro-life measures go down in defeat on election day, whether it’s the South Dakota law a couple of years ago, or even these ballot proposals for parental notification that have been, incomprehensively, voted down a couple of times recently here in California.

An interesting aspect of the study cited in the article above is that California has seen a drop in abortion rates that is above the national average. But California is always ranked low by pro-life groups. Similiarly, Oregon was just declared the most pro-abortion state in the country by Americans United for Life, but the state showed the second highest drop in the nation.

So it seems that success (or at least fewer abortions) is not especially coupled to secular law.

The sad thing is, there is no such thing as “winning” until children are no longer being murdered in the name of “sexual freedom”.

Do you really think the pro-life movement is winning?

Trust me, it will be difficult to supplant our programming. Do you think the pro-life movement will survive after the advent of new reproductive technology?

I think Pro-Life is winning but there is a long way to go. I think it is winning since my students seem more willing in the past few years to speak about their pro-life orientation and some of my academic colleagues seem much less confident about their ideological pro choice knee jerk reactions. No real evidence here, just an observation. Re new reproductive technology–they scare the living daylights out of me. I assume you mean clones, chimeras, artificial life and so on. Pro-lifers need to be informed about these developments need to be prepared to take on these issues with the same fervor that they fight the pro-life battle. A dedicated bio-ethics forum would be an important step taken by CAF.

Actually Ribozyme, I have worked with a prolife group at my dd’s school… it totally warms my heart that it is the biggest club in the school and how dedicated the kids are. When we went to DC for the March for life, these kids really knew the issues and their moral beliefs as well… I have 2 teens, a preteen and a 20yo… all very prolife… yes I see the change in society and I am pleased. I do admit there is a long road ahead yet, but progress is progress and I am happy for the 400,000 babies a year that aren’t aborted.
