Just wanted to see, of all of you with strong views on combatting abortion on this board, how many actually make those views heard outside of Catholic circles.

(Note: in ‘pro-life charities’, I meant groups whose main function is to do pro-life stuff, i.e. giving to your parish church or to the Republican party doesn’t count).

Among other volunteer duties, I’m secretary of Stone County Right to Life. We don’t have a crisis pregnancy center in this country (although we’re working on it), so we support one in a nearby county.

We do the “baby bottle boomerang” where we hand out baby bottles in church on Mother’s Day, those who take them fill them with spare change (and sometimes quite a bit more) and bring them back on Father’s Day.

We raised money for and put up signs advertising the services available at the crisis pregnancy center. We also put up posters in strategic location (the girl’s room at the local high school for example.)

We work with other churchs to “adopt” pregnant girls – accepting the responsibiliy to get them the care they need, to continue their education, and to find jobs.

We currently have a lady who is pregnant at the age of 35, unmarried, and a high-risk pregnancy. We drive her to Little Rock and back (about a 250 mile round trip) every week for checkups and treatment.

Our local Right to Life group is non-denominational, but is populated by a large percentage of Catholics. We work closely with all of the Churches in our county which I believe is over fifty. This includes protestant churches, Assembly of God, Laterday saints, and Baptist groups. We target the general public through billboard ads, rotating newspaper editorials, pregnancy centers, crises centers, pamphlets, flyers, individual volunteering, parade marches, Roe v. Wade anniversary day marches, county fair booths, etc.

Hey DL82,
The Lord has called me to do just about everyone of those. Right now I am consintrating on 40 Days for Life fall campaign as a coordinator.

Hopefully praying someday that He will call me to bring more lives into this world with a family of my own!

God Bless,
John Anthony

Pray outside abortion mills, try and talk the mothers and fathers going in out of the biggest mistake of their lives. It is sad to how empty those sidewalks outside of abortion mills are most of the time. Children are literally being ripped apart inside and nothing is done to oppose it most of the time. If 1% of the Catholics prayed outside abortion mills, abortion would end, but we don’t and so it won’t.

This is the greatest evil of our time and we will be judged by what we do --or don’t do-- to oppose it. Jesus said "‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ and "‘Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’

We are all going to have to answer the question "Where were you when I was aborted? What did you do to try and stop it?

God bless

I’m my parish Pro-Life Committee Chariperson. We don’t get the support we need (from the parish or the previous pastor), but we sure do work with what we have been given.

I’m involved with Right to Life and 40 Days for Life. I do what I can, but always feel like I need to do more.

I am also involved for “40 Days for Life”. It is amazing how much power it has within the communities. I think that all the pro-life groups do a great deal of good. This one is more national and widespread. Go to 40 days for life.com and check out the results. It is starting in Sept.! Join us and we can overcome the horrible evil of abortion!

The Life Chain, where congregations line the street and pray quitetly will be held on October 5th, at 2:30 PM.
