I have been a divorced (and annulled) Catholic for about five years. In that time, most of the women I have dated have been Catholic, and the majority of them have participated in pro-life activities such as the March for Life and vigils outside Planned Parenthood.

Most of the women I have dated who have also been active in the pro-life movement have also been sexually active. Out of three avowedly pro-life (ex-) girlfriends I have had, ALL of them have been sexually active. It was me who refused sex. Through them, I know that of a number of outwardly conservative and pro-life men with whom my exes had sex as well and one of whom I know to still be sexually active.

In one case, the girlfriend I had at the time told me not to worry, because if she got pregnant, she would “take care of it.” That woman had pro-life bumper stickers on her wall at home.

At least two of these women are now gung-ho Donald Trump fans. Guess why? Abortion.

This pattern strikes me as very hypocritical. I’m wondering how common it is, given my own anecdotal experience. If this pattern is common, the pro-life movement is in really big trouble.

I doubt that it’s common among pro-lifers to be willing to commit abortion but, at the same time, oppose it. After all, only one woman out of all the ones you dated held such hypocritical beliefs. Being a fornicator doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with being pro-life. Considering these women were mostly Catholic, though, is very sad.

Obviously, these are not the women for you. Move on and sooner or later you will find someone who is more compatible. I am wondering though why abortion would convince the other women to become Donald Trump fans; of the 2 people running, Mrs. Clinton is the unapologetic, 100% abortion supporter.

I’m pretty sure enjoying sex had nothing to do with being pro life or pro choice.

Pro-life is not even necessarily a religious stance and there are many cultural Catholics in the world. Why can one not be pro-life but live a secular lifestyle? 🤷

Christopher Hitchens, the famous British atheist philosopher who died a few Yeats back, was a pro-lifer.

We’re never going to end the culture of death if we limit ourselves to “true believers”. You have to win over secular folk, whether secular of confession or secular in lifestyle.

Well, now that Trump has made it fashionable to fawn over the ‘wonderful’ work Planned Parenthood does – “except for when it comes to abortion” – I dare say, thanks to him (for better or worse), you can be pro-life and live a ‘secular’ life. That’s precisely the point. As to since when does “pro-life” mean you can still sleep around and practice artificial birth control? Well, apparently, since 2016. 🤷

Believing that unborn fetuses should be protected from slaughter, in no way implies conservatism, or even morality, in any other areas.

However, you’d think that one would lead to another. Especially for a Catholic.

Catholics are just as much sinners, as a class, as anybody else.

If everybody was a saint, there would be no need for recognized saints.

Perhaps she meant she would literally take care of the child and raise him or her?

When I was a teenager a a girl I knew became pregnant at 16. Her pro-life catholic mother forced her to go to planned parenthood to have an abortion. 🤷

Prolife and pro sex common

Pro life and “I’ll take care of it” just a weird chick…

Sex is… well you said divorced… so you know, hard to not do.

Plus as much as women are usually the ones put on defense, in my experience if you muster up some self control for 5 mins they will turn into a horny advancer since they don’t have the excuse available to sit back and “give in”.

That’s literally the problem with some pro life people. They are against it unless they knocked up some girl/their kid got knocked up/they themselves get knocked up. So wishy washy.

People like this makes pro life people look like angry, sexist people that wants to dictate what people should do with their bodies.

No, that wasn’t the context. She was a youth minister, and said that she had worried in the past about losing her job if she were to get pregnant outside of marriage. Yet I was the one who said no to sex. She just seemed to be a really broken person.

During a woman’s pre-menopausal years, sex is inseparably connected with the possibility of pregnancy, regardless of artificial contraception or NFP method used (they just reduce the likelihood of pregnancy). Aside from the sin of someone having sex outside marriage, it seems like they are also putting themselves in proximate occasion of the sin of abortion, by allowing themselves to be pregnant when they don’t intend to be.

Why does a devout Catholic steal or something?

Abortion is half no different. Especially when the environmental narrative is that the unborn are not people. It can be hard to fight it in that they see the theory that there should be no abortions but their minds are seperated from the idea of it “actually being murder”.

Tbh years ago in my secular days I was against abortion for myself as a man I would see a woman aborting my kid as killing my kid period.

However due to environmental conditioning I was not entirely anti abortion in the social sense as I wasn’t “sure” that it was murder for everyone else because people say it isn’t…

It can be easy to be swept up to some degree, though mine was in opposite to the form of the prolifers you are discussing it is compressible they have a torn view on the subject.
