Asked of me,
What is the point of a March for Life?
It doesn’t do any good.
How do I respond?

I responded with a question.
“What was the point of the Boston Tea Party?”
“What was the point of Martin Luther King, Jr’s speech?”

Help!

Good answer. Just take it out of question form, and say instead something like, There was an awful prejudice that tore our country in two. Peaceful protest brought attention to it, and it’s gone.

Say that it’s ignorant to say that things which have worked hundreds of times in the past suddenly don’t make a difference today. It’s not just your opinion, it’s historical and fact-based.

God Bless! 🙂

I believe you responded correctly. If he/she has ever voiced opposition to anything, then he/she should understand why protests have value.

It was my teenage son. He has gone to pro life events and Walks for Life. I just drew a blank today when responding to him. :o

Good answer. Thanks for your response. Looks like I blew it again talking to my teenager…

Go talk to a teenager who has no one to talk to, volunteer your bedroom for a mother in need, teach at a civil center, volunteer at a AIDs hospice. Expose him to things outside of just “protests”, teen boys like things we teeth in them something they can work with.

👍
Thank you for these suggestions. I hope to take him on a family mission trip to migrant workers next summer.

Most people are busy, uninformed & are just born ‘followers’, so it is important to provide a strong, positive & loving Witness they can see.

Pro-life work makes an incredible difference! **Many babies have been saved from the murderous abortionists & are alive today because of the courageous witness of many Pro-life people! **

Recently, Abby Johnson, a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic director in Texas, quit & publicly exposed the fact that Planned Parenthood is primarily an abortion provider.

Despite their lies & propaganda about abortion being a small portion of their “health care services”, abortion provides the majority of their income as well as $300+ MILLION IN TAX DOLLARS USED TO PROMOTE & PERFORM ABORTIONS! foxnews.com/story/0,2933,571215,00.html

**We all need to start by informing our family & friends of the value of every human life from conception to natural death (Catholic Teaching for 2000 years!) **

We need to take action in a positive & loving manner whether praying in front of abortion clinics, helping young women & men by informing them of their options & supporting pregnancy centers & organizations that provide money, housing, clothing, medical, job training, education & other services or adopt, foster or just help those families who do!!!

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!

UPDATE:

My son attended the ProLife Rally together with the family yesterday in Portland, and just HAD TO buy the black t-shirt that said, “ABORTION: It’s SO Last Century.” I was like,
“you’re really going to wear that?”
And he absolutely wore it. 👍

Listening to the testimonies of the people talking about babies who were saved – even just ONE – I looked at my son who was intently listening and held up my one finger.
If ONE HUMAN BEING IS SAVED it is all worthwhile!!!

He is ready and on-fire to start a pro-life club at his public high school.

More power to him!!!
Thanks be to God.

I think you sort of answered your own question. Like the participants in the Boston Tea Party and the participants who attended MLK, Jr.'s speech, we have HOPE that it will eventually cause a change.

To do nothing when we have ample opportunity to do something (albeit small and seemingly worthless), is sinful.

We should not panic when teens give us this kind of response. We have to understand that teens are not the most patient people in the world. The young man in question here went to the pro-life march and saw something happening. This changed his mind. That’s what teens need. They need to see something happening.

My son was very indifferent to the pro-life movement until I became a Franciscan Brother of Life. I began to ask him for favors. He has run errands for us. He has set up our computers. He has created posters for us. And done other things. In the process, he has had a chance to meet the people who work at Respect Life: religious, lay volunteers, lay staff, priests, deacons, and the bishop himself. He’s not longer indifferent. He has been able to put a face with the pro-life movement. He can see things happening and people doing something.

This is very common for most teens.

Fraternally,

Br. JR, OSF 🙂

You might also want to point out to him that - for the first time in 15 years - a majority of Americans now identify themselves as “pro-life”, rather than “pro-choice” (pro-abortion, of course).

gallup.com/poll/118399/more-americans-pro-life-than-pro-choice-first-time.aspx

So, the marches, protests, vigils, persistence and prayers have indeed started to pay off!

I live in a little town in a little state, we had a little pro life booth at the county fair. Because of that little effort, 2 babies were saved (we directed the young women to the local CPC who confirmed back with us that mom decided life for her baby).

If 6 volunteers can do that in one town, imagine what the tens of thousands can do!

I will tell you something…On the anniversary of R vs W I am going to light a sand candle and let it burn all night…Many people in my parish are doing this too…The Christopher’s always say It is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness

What good will it do ? One God knows, but other people will know that I am pro-life…by their fruits ye shall know them
