I was brushing my teeth, I normally don’t think about problems arising from that happening after receiving the Eucharist, but tonight my heart sunk when I saw some color in my spit that was similar to what I received!

What am I to do in this situation?? I haven’t washed it all away out of fear and just stared in confusion (out of fear) when I saw it go into the drain. I feel like I could be committing something awful…

I’m absolutely terrified of what I have just done! Could I be excommunicated if I handle this poorly?

#1, why are you asking here? This is a question for your pastor.

#2; you don’t give any details, like when you went to Mass, and how long after that you were brushing your teeth.

#3 You “think” it might have been part of the Eucharist; which means, you really could not identify it as such.

#4 Whether or not it was remains, long after you received, you did nothing intentionally, so you could not have possibly have committed a sin.

Speak to your priest, and give him the details you did not include.

When a Host falls to the floor and may be contaminated, the means of resolving it are for the priest to place it in a container of water until it dissolves. Note: it never dissolves as in “disappears”; it simply becomes mushy and no longer looks like a Host. According to the Church, Christ is no longer present at that point, and it is to be disposed of properly.

Pardon me, I was in a panic.

#1 Not available presently

#2 Sorry, a few hours passed between communion and brushing, there is no resemblance to the Host other than the color. Does this mean Christ is no longer present?

I haven’t really used the sink afterward because I didn’t wanna cause more damage. So what remains could still be sitting in there :frowning_face_with_open_mouth:

#2 - Yes. but speak with your priest; you will be more comfortable with an answer form him than from a stranger.

Use the sink, that is what it is for. You don’t even know if it was a remainder of the Host, and whatever was in your mouth clearly was there for enough time for it to dissolve - whether Host or something else. I understand you were in a panic. God doesn’t play “Gotcha!!!”. You did nothing wrong.

I really really doubt it was a particle of Eucharist because it dissolves really fast, and unless you were extremely dehydrated (as in physical symptoms so severe you couldn’t even stand up) you would have swallowed it by natural processes.

The Eucharist is thought to be with us for 15 minutes after receiving. It’s highly unlikely that a piece of Eucharist would persist in your mouth for several hours. It would dissolve way before that. Don’t worry about it.

I agree with all that has been said by other posters here. I would add that if it causes this level of anxiety that it were even possible, try not to chew the Eucharist. If you know you didn’t chew it, that would prevent you from believing you have found pieces in your teeth.
