Thanks for all who contributed to this post. I’ve read read all of your responses and I’m grateful that you guys have taken the time to offer up your insight. I’m honestly just worried about losing my faith with all of the things that I’m learning in school. It just seems like whenever I take classes like the social sciences and English, classes that emphasize critical thinking and having an open-mind, I find something that conflicts with the revealed truths of our faith, things that often convinces me that maybe what our faith teaches is wrong. I don’t know, maybe it’s just I think too much or have kept myself too open-minded or maybe it’s a lack of study of our faith. I value my faith very much, it’s what keeps me sane in this crazy world, and I don’t want to lose that sense of peace and security that I get from it. I’ve thought about going to the seminary and just closing myself off from the many misleading voices of the world; I feel like it’s so easy to get lost our way in such a pluralistic society, but I honestly don’t want to become a Priest or a religious brother, I don’t think I’d be able to handle having to make such a life-long commitment. I’d rather be a single and keep myself open to the possibility of marriage. But I don’t know, it’s so hard to get free from the grip of my very secular education because I don’t have the money and I’m stuck having to take this classes due to financial aid commitments because if I decide to drop I would have to pay back the money, and I don’t want to incur such a debt on my family.
Of your faith is strong, dissenting will only reinforce your beliefs.
One can’t combat the enemy without knowing the games that people play with morality.
Why would any Christian be afraid?
Be at peace. Get your education, Make a difference in the lives of children.

Thanks for all the comforting words, it means a lot. I have faith that no matter what happens God will come through for me.

Right.

I went to a Jesuit college. They constantly encouraged us to question and challenge everything. It was only by questioning that we grow deeper in our understanding.

I got a better religious education in a few required semesters of theology in college than I did in 12 years of Catholic school.

I went to a VERY liberal school. I seriously had professors who talked about how nature was their religion, had some classes where people tried to lead chants to the “earth mother”. Had many professors mock Christianity. But my faith was stronger than ever, probably more so and I know the Good Lord put me in those classes to share the gospel when I could…and I did:thumbsup:
