What exactly are the problems with the Society of St. Pious the 10’th? I know many argue whether they are in schism or not, but I’m not asking this. My mother-in-law continuously speaks about them being the true “sect” of the Catholic Church, and that V2 was infultrated by free masons and influenced by demonic forces, AND that the Novus Ordo was PURPOSELY designed to tear apart the Catholic Church.

I’ve read “More Catholic Than the Pope” and found it helpful, but I’m wondering what any of you guys think.

P.S. I’m NOT asking for SSPXs opinons here, I’ve heard enough, so please no comments, I’m speaking to those who don’t believe V2 was “demonic.”

Its up to your mother in law to provide evidence of her assertions. Then we can debate it.
Frankly her claims are a load of rubbish!

My question to your mother-in-law would be why she is so quick to accept the SSPX over such groups as the FSSP, the latter of which have maintained a regular status within the Church as well as adherence to the EF liturgy.

She’s easily influenced, I’ll say, but she is a very devoted Catholic, and actually, doesn’t attend any SSPX church, rather we all go together to a Novus Ordo Mass. She just has he robjections, which by the way are completely influenced by her brother, who fills her head with this nonesense, and attends SSPX church.

Because the SSPX don’t have jurisdiction or faculties from the Church their Confessions and Marriages are most probably invalid.

Other than that I mostly agree with their position, but I would go so far as to say Vatican II was demonic or the church has fallen to the freemasons. (I’ve never been to an SSPX Mass though.)

From what I’ve heard, their congregations are more extreme than their clergy, they do believe they are holding on to the truth and the Popes have been teaching some errors since V2, but I’m not sure most of them would go as far as your mother-in-law.

Threads like this can get heated and I pray it doesn’t today. There was a time when there were things Catholics just didn’t do. And spending Easter debating a topic that fuels division, a terrible thorn in the side of the Chuch these days, seems like something a Catholic wouldn’t do.

Happy Easter to all. He is Risen ! Deo gratias !

A statement from either the Pope or spokesman for the Holy See recently said that the lifting of the excommunications does NOT give SSPX any official standing in the Church, and that the SSPX bishops and priests exercise their orders illicitly.

I pray that their status will soon be regularized, they will be fully reconciled, and all doubt or stigma or any irregularity will be removed and consigned to oblivion.

I do have a question that maybe someone could help me with.

As a catechumen entering the Catholic Church by way of the SSPX. If they were to move to another location where an SSPX chapel was no where around, so they went to the closest Parish ( a NO), then decided to register with that Parish. Could they do this since you have to be registered within a Diocese to transfer, and since the SSPX fails to recognize any Dioceses…what would happen to them. Would they have to go through RCIA as if they had never converted.

No. You can register with your new parish.

They might need your baptismal certificate, but I imagine the SSPX gave you one?

Welcome Home!

Thanks for your welcoming but I wasn’t talking about me or anyone in particular, but just in general when the question came up in a conversation.

I guess I didn’t make myself clear, sorry. But thanks again for your kindness. (I’ve been home now for quite a while, and yes it is wonderful)
😃

But my question was, would they (in general) be considered a Catholic in good standing since they “joined” through the SSPX, or would they have to go to confession and RCIA all over again as if they were just converting? I know the SSPX is not considered to be in full communion with Rome.

Ah, sorry.

Basically, yes, they would be OK, as far as I know. The SSPX is Catholic. The SSPX has been declared as an “internal matter” of the Church, meaning they are within Holy Mother Church. They are, however, in an irregular position, which makes everything all fuzzy. Pope Benedict XVI is now working on making them not irregular.

But, as to your question, baptism is a one-shot deal, so they would be baptized properly. Confirmation, I am not sure. It is likely that it would be OK (because it can only be given once), and Bishops Fellay, Williamson, Tellier, and the fourth (I don’t know his name) are valid bishops, and you do not need papal permission to confirm.

Of course, one would want to check with a reliable Church source. Maybe ask the SSPX? Or an FSSP or ICKSP priest, and ask his take.

Edit:
Also, I was using the "you’ in the general sense. I have a habit of doing that.

I think if we stay faithful to the Holy Father we’ll be oki. The Pope isn’t against the Novus Ordo, and the NO doesn’t have to be “irreverent” necessarily, the problem is not the new Mass but the liturgical abuse that sometimes accompanies it. (and the abuse goes against the Church, btw).

In any case: I am definitely support the Roman Pontiff Benedict XVI and the Society of Saint Pius X 100%! I’m contemplating on joining the SSPX as a seminarian ( just an idea) or my regular diocesan priesthood. (Whichever will accept me.🙂 )

Very cool!

I am the only one out of my family that is ‘Novus Ordo’ and thus the black sheep. I’ve had my eyes & ears wide open for many years and have concluded that I am in the right place. We are not perfect people within the post Vatican II Church. so to compare us with what should be perfect leads to disappointment. News flash…people are not perfect. However, I like praying words that I can understand. The Holy Church has made many changes throughout history and rightly so. Jesus allowed for updating and sanctioned it by giving the keys of the kingdom to Peter. He gave authority to bind and to release. I believe in the Church then and now because by Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit for all time we can trust Him to lead us to the truth and keep us faithful to Jesus’ teaching. He keeps intervening and pulling us back to center where Christ is all throughout history. We in the Church are sinful people on our journey toward God, but the Holy Spirit is our guide to keep us on the right path. Our dogmas and articles of belief, our liturgy and sacraments are solidly based on Holy Scripture. We can trust God to lead us in the right path through our Holy Mother Church. I do!

Happy Easter!

Rather than argue, let me suggest the OP just read the documents from the Church.

I do not believe that Jesus lied to us. I know there are alot of people being led to believe that our church has “gone astray”. There’s so much confusion. Freemasons, as I understand, have infiltrated the church, as the Achilles Leinart (hopefully I spelled it right) ordained Marcel Lafavbre (the father of the SSPX movement). We are told that our Holy Father is led by the Holy Spririt and if He is led by the Holy Spirit, then this cannot happen. Our church is the same, but there are those who fight against her, now, in the past, and will continue to do so.

Think about this. What other church is fought against soooo much. TV news headlines, paper headlines, etc. Other churches have alot of the same problems, but are not “advertised” like it is when anything happens in the Catholic Church. The ole enemy is trying and will always try to bring her down. BUT, it will never happen. God said so…

All we can do is pray and be watchful. There are wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Who has actually brought confusion and division to our church? Our church has not “advertised” anything devisive about Vatican 11. Who, then is responsible for causing all the confusion, Who is the father of confusion? Think about this… There is really only one answer…

The main problem with this post is that it assumes that the Church can speak no wrong ever and can have no crisis’. This is not so. The Pope is not always infallible and it is possible for his to make errors.
There was a time when Pope Liberius excommunicated St Athanasius of Alexandria for teaching the Blessed Trinity and signed an arian creed. This was clearly erronous. On a less serious note is the time when Pope Urban VIII made somking tobacco punishable by excommunication because he thought it caused sneezing which looked too much like sexual ecstasy, this was reversed by Pope Benedict XIII.

Clearly if we have a new liturgy thrust upon us that can be called a “fabricated liturgy … a construction, a banal on-the-spot product” by Cardinal Ratzinger, then we have a problem which must be opposed. Pope St. Pius X said “true friends of the people are neither revolutionaries nor innovators, but traditionalists” and the Novus Ordo - as well as the practise of false ecumenism etc. - are pure novelties in the Catholic Faith, and novelty itself is alien to Catholicism.

I’m not an SSPXer myself and they have many mistakes, but I must defend them. They are not and never have been attacking the Church or to cause confusion, and they don’t teach that the Church has fallen to the Freemasons, of course this cannot happen, although a lot of people seem to believe this (mostly sedes). (You seem to be half saying the SSPX is causing the confusion and half saying Satan is, of couse it is Satan.)

God Bless.

Forget legalities for a second. On a practical matter, what do you suggest they do? After all they are valid priests with a mission.

Did the Vatican tell them they couldn’t say Mass anymore and damn their congregations? This wouldn’t be exactly the message sent by lifting the excommunications, would it?
