Sometimes the priest seem very irritated when I ask if he could hear my confession. This is very embarrassing to me.
What should I do? Should I consider this embarrassment part of my penance?:o

why should a priest be irritated if He’s there for the purpose . It might be just you having the feeling that he is irritated.

It is us who might feel embarrassed, irritated for going to confession, not the priest. The priest’s job is to love God and love souls; there is no reason to not want to listen to your confession.

I believe that I read somewhere that a priest must hear a confession when asked unless there is a very good reason not to. I don’t remember where I read it.

Peace,
Linda

Are you in the habit of asking for Confession at odd times outside of the regularly scheduled times? Do you ask when the priest is in the middle of another important thing? Do you do this often? That could be annoying to the priest, and you may wish to try being more considerate, if that is possible.

Or do you belong to one of those sad parishes that have no regular times for Confession? Priests who don’t schedule confession times may not like to hear confessions. In that case, just offer it up as penance for you and for the priest.
