Problems with EWTN

This is NOT correct thinking. It appears that some of the arguments made on this board imply that the Majesterium of the Church is wrong or at least misunderstood by the leaders since Pope Pius X. That’s why some have elected a “new Pope” or started other “new” catholic churches and claim to be the authentic Church. Why is it when things don’t go our way we push God or at least His appointed driver and guides over from steering the ship and try to take over? God must not know what he’s doing. Humans do not like change much in the same as wild animals do not like change or what appears to be change. What about divine revelation (see the Catholic Encyclopedia newadvent.org/cathen/13001a.htm)??)

If one is a member of the Church that consist of the Majesterium, Tradition and Scripture (MTS), does not submit to the Church with the MTS, then one places oneself outside the Church and the MTS. That is a personal choice not led by the Church. And by choice one risk one’s own soul by choice. I’m sure someone could improve this argument, but this will still suffice for now to make a point.

What are some of your thoughts on this. BTW EWTN helped me come back to the Catholic Church and played a strong role in tearing a part the lies told to my wife about Catholicism. Now I fear that these arguments within the Church will cause her to run again.
BTW, many of the Saints (St. Teresa of Avila comes to mind first) had problems with individual priests and even bishops. There isn’t infallibility there. I haven’t seen any full-fledged sedes on this board, so all of us follow the Pope and the Magesterium in union with the Pope (even when it’s really hard).

Also, I, too am a convert and coming from the Episcopal church really see the need for papal authority!!! 👍 I also enjoy listening on radio, since I don’t have TV, to EWTN and the only rock music I’ve heard is with Life On The Rock breaks and sometimes on breaks of The Doctor Is In. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the amount of Latin I hear there, too (out here, one of the few places to hear it).😉

My only complaint with EWTN is that politically they seem to be a little “right” of the Holy See itself. There is legitimate room for differences of political opinion among faithful Catholics, and I think that many of the commentators on EWTN do not seem to be able to help making one type of political opinion seem more genuinely Catholic than another. In days past in the US, to be a Catholic meant one voted Democrat. Now it seems from the type of commentary one often hears on EWTN one would think the pendulum had swung the other way (the older bishops’ preferences aside).

I just think a Catholic broadcasting network should be more detached from partisanship (which is not to say that I want EWTN commentators to desist from criticizing any politicians of either party who trumpet their Catholicism while still voting anti-life). I don’t think we should be lumping together, say, a “softer” approach to illegal aliens with things like hiding the tabernacle in a side closet or “consecrating” Oreo cookies or praying the “Our Mother” or stuff like that.

Still, this is a minor complaint. I love EWTN – I watch it (or have it on as I work) pretty much all the time. It has been the main means by which the Lord has been changing my life. Without watching it so much, I doubt I would have gotten the restlessness to live out my faith which has led me to become active in my parish (and no longer just a spectator).
I agree that that is the only fault I can find also, that the network could moderate some of the political commentary to being more in-line with the Church.:yup:
