It really comes down to whether you’re a believer or not.

If you’re a believer, there’s more than enough evidence, if you’re not, then there’s about as much evidence as there is about the existence of Harry Potter or Gandalf.

To a Christian, Jesus fulfilled all the Messianic prophesies, to a Jew he fulfilled all those that could be fulfilled by telling the story in a particular way and/or manipulating the meaning of those prophesies.

One man’s (or woman’s) sacred text is another’s ‘pious fiction’.

So says the catholic church, but that’s not the opinion of most historians.
It’s time to start showing some of those opinions. If you can’t take the eyewitness accounts of any of the gospel writers, or any of the mary’s, as well as the sanhedrin, then how can you take the eyewitness accounts regarding anyone in history?

It also depends on what the definition of “historian” is.

If you mean leftist college professors manning secularist history departments, then certainly a majority of them have “problems with Jesus” to say the least. Their religion is leftism, if not Marxism. This is the factory that produces much of the rot that passes for “social history” (as if some history were possible which wasn’t concerned with society).

If you mean everyone who has attempted to discern the truth of the past from 33 A.D. to this day, however, there is no way a majority believe any such thing.

A clue is that these texts are entitled “…according to [Apostle].”

Modern historians will no doubt soon be claiming that Sir Winston Churchill didn’t write his Nobel prize winning books, much as they already claim that Shakespeare didn’t write his.

This is because “modern historian” is synonymous with “fabulist” and has been since “Marxist history” became the dogma of academic historians.

I suppose that the poster was using “most historians” in this sense, probably because they only get exposed to history through the Discover Channel’s Christmas and Easter Debunking Weeks.
