my fiances a cradle catholic and ive never been raised as any thing but going to any sort of prodistant church supposidly i was babtized methodist (what ever that means) but theres really no documintation of this and all i remember was having water put on my head and them giving me a bible… i wasnt raised in any sort of church really and i didnt go unless my neighbors or babysitter went. but i do remember my parents not talking to kindly about catholics weather it was what happened with those preists or how my mom thinks all catholic men are womenizing shovanistic pigs (what ever that means) i got the imprssion that catholisism was evil and wierd. since sudying many of the worlds religions ive come to the conculsion that people are going to always put in their two cents and hate and dissagree with me no matter what i believe. but would have never thought my mother would have the contempt that she has tward me and my fiance. i fear she will dis-own me… my dad just makes jokes… but i can tell hes dissapointed… my mom told me that she me that she might not come to our wedding because she may not be able to take off time from work… shes a fricken bus monitor… and my dad is the bread winner as a snap-on tools sales man. granted they live in Washington and we’re getting married in long island New York in my fiances Church but even my friends who cant afford a free phone call have told me they will be there. i feel she dosent love me any more and my dad just thinks its all a joke… saying that i need to be care full letting my future sons be alter boys. what do i do their my family friends com and go but family is forever…
who are they to make me choose.
Blessed be and much clown love
Brigdit…

Take things one at a time. Concentrate on your RCIA classes for now. As for the wedding, try to explain that you want a church wedding, not a marriage by a JP so that your marriage can be blessed by God. You could also get them a book on Catholicism, if you think they might read it. Unfortuanately, there are a lot of lies about Catholics out there and your family seems to have heard a lot of them.

In the west most have gone pagan. The media is very powerful. It appears satan has really conquered the media. You never hear how the catholic chuch is the largest charitable organisation in the world. More charitable work than all the others combined. If you are persecuted then it really is a blessing. Pray for them. At the last day we will be vindicated. Leave who we are vindicated against up to God though.

they’re my family. friends come and go, but family is forever…
Brigid, Honey,

God is eternal. When your friends are too busy to see that you are hurting, and your family has abandoned you, and you are peniless and alone on the streets with nothing left to call your own, you will still have God.

“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.” (Jeremiah 1:5)
“Does a woman forget her baby at the breast, or fail to cherish the son of her womb? Yet even if these forget, I will never forget you. See, I have branded you on the palms of my hands…” (Isaiah 49:15-16)

Long after we have returned to dust, after your and your fiancée’s futures are past, after the last vestige of strength leaves the last living person, and death seems to have conquered all…

…after our Lord raises us again…

it will not be your mother’s disgust, nor your father’s jokes, that you will have to fear. it will not be your mother’s love, your father’s love, or your fiancées love in which you will find your comfort.

rather, it is God’s righteous judgement you will have to fear, and it is in God’s love where you will find your comfort.

I will not tell you to become Catholic for your fiancée, or to remain a protestant for your family. For to do either of these two would be wrong, dearest Brigid.

Your soul is dear to God, your soul was willed into existence, uniquely and invidually, by God Himself. You, Brigid, you are beloved to God.

So if you remain Protestant, I pray that you do so in the firmness of your own belief and in your desire to please - not your parents or family - but our God, your Lord and Saviour who gave up His life and suffered so much more than just cruxifiction - humiliation, anguish, abandonment - all these are a part of His passion - and He suffered all of it because He loves you so much.

If you become Catholic, I pray that you do so because you have come to accept the Truth of the Catholic Church - I pray you do so because you have heard God’s call to conversion, and are responding to the Ultimate Lover, the Lover and Author of your very soul. If you become Catholic, let it be for love of God that it may become a testament to your faith and fidelity to the One who will never forget you - and pray, do not become Catholic only for love of a mortal man, lest that which is good becomes detestable in you, through lack of true sincerety and faith, before the God who ever loves you.

Friends come and go. So does family, and so does this life which we are living in. This world is temporary, finite, mortal.

God alone is eternal, infinite, immortal. So whatever you do, do it for Him and nobody else.

Pax Christi,
Esther Rose

There is a lot going on here so lets take it apart.
my fiances a cradle catholic and ive never been raised as any thing but going to any sort of prodistant church supposidly i was babtized methodist (what ever that means) but theres really no documintation of this and all i remember was having water put on my head and them giving me a bible… i wasnt raised in any sort of church really and i didnt go unless my neighbors or babysitter went.
You may need to look into the baptism thing for your pre-cana courses - Not sure about that though.
It’s obvious that your parents never took faith seriously.
but i do remember my parents not talking to kindly about catholics weather it was what happened with those preists or how my mom thinks all catholic men are womenizing shovanistic pigs (what ever that means) i got the imprssion that catholisism was evil and wierd.
My guess is that your parents have had no real contact with or education about the Church. Any group is going to have godd and bad as well as some extra good and a few extra bad.
since sudying many of the worlds religions ive come to the conculsion that people are going to always put in their two cents and hate and dissagree with me no matter what i believe.
Absolutely. Everyone always knows what’s best for someone else. Just try to look and see how well they are handling their own lives before putting much stock in what they say.
but would have never thought my mother would have the contempt that she has tward me and my fiance. i fear she will dis-own me… my dad just makes jokes… but i can tell hes dissapointed…
Here again it seems obvious that your parents are acting out from a position of gross mis-information. Ultimately you have to remember that you are the one getting married and not her.
my mom told me that she me that she might not come to our wedding because she may not be able to take off time from work… shes a fricken bus monitor… and my dad is the bread winner as a snap-on tools sales man. granted they live in Washington and we’re getting married in long island New York in my fiances Church but even my friends who cant afford a free phone call have told me they will be there.
You cannot control what they will do, so be loving but firm.
i feel she dosent love me any more and my dad just thinks its all a joke… saying that i need to be care full letting my future sons be alter boys.
Have your parents met your fiance yet? It could be that, once they get to know him, they will love him as much as you do. As far as your mother’s actions, you will just have to give her some time and be firm but loving. Don’t get into any kind of argument with her. Your dad seems more resigned to the situation and, as a salesman probably has a little more “cosmopolitan” view. He has surely met and dealt with people from all faiths.
what do i do their my family friends com and go but family is forever…
You must make your choices for your life. Yes they are family. but you cannot allow them to bully you into doing something you don’t want to do. Yes there will probably be difficult times ahead, but if you are loving and remain open to them (just not submissive to them), things will generally settle down.
(Wait till your mom gets her hands on a Grandchild.)
who are they to make me choose.
No one. Do not let them choose for you.

Peace
James
