Profession of Faith in the Mass

My husband and I are returning Catholics, both having been away from the Church for some 38 years. Vatican II was still being put in place when we left back in the late 60’s, early 70’s, so a lot of the things we see now were unheard of back then. Coming back is a bit of a culture shock, though we thank God for bringing us home.

My DH and I are very blessed in that we have a Tridentine Mass that we can attend every Sunday, and we try always to make that one. However, we have attended our local parish a couple of times. Both times the priest has omitted the Profession of Faith, or Apostles Creed as we use to call it, from the Mass. To be fair, the first time we went, there was an adult confirmation held, and the second time were two baptisms. Maybe the Priest thought there wasn’t enough time to do the Profession of Faith?

But it is my understanding that the Profession of Faith must always be said on Sundays and Holy Days. Am I wrong on this? Should I say anything about this?

I believe that both sacraments, Confirmation and Baptism, have a form of the profession of faith as part of the rite. This would take the place of the Nicene Creed usually prayed at Sunday Mass.

The Nicene Creed is not the same thing as the Apostles’ Creed.

They are two entirely different symbols.
