I agree. There is more paperwork if an Orthodox person wants to become a Roman Catholic. But that is a requirement for us, not for the Orthodox person. The extra paperwork comes not as a part of going from Orthodox to Catholic, but from moving from one catholic rite to another.

Welcome to the Catholic Church. Now fill out this form, write to Bishop so and so, etc. and get back to me. The OP had a form of this problem, which is completely on the catholic side and doesn’t really have to do with being Orthodox. (I have some Maronite friends, Catholic their whole lives, who now have to go through this paperwork to get married…)

Sometimes it is good to have someone to do all this for the whole diocese, because mistakes are easy. But that is not always the practice everywhere.

and “the work of ecumenism does not remove the right or take away the responsibility of proclaiming in fullness the Catholic faith to other Christians, who freely wish to receive it.”
Yes, but we are not to be seeking to get Orthodox to cross over to Catholic. They already have the “fullness of faith”. They are not to be rejected if they seek to cross (apparently, coming as an entire church, though, is an exception, as it would upset the RO).
I can see why there was an issue with the parents having to make a choice.
No “choice” at the time: she is automatically enrolled in the most similar church; no choice involved. She would then have to request transfer to the RC if she so withed.
Without all the Latin Rite Catholics that we have, I don’t think our parish would exist today.
My parish is actually majority RC, including myself.

I didn’t change ritual as it can only be done once, and Melkite has always seemed more where I belong. Now, we have a Melkite mission, too, so we shall see . . .
